Chapter One – Mistaken identity
By: arsonist_ed
Hazied.
Deputy Commissioner Park Yoochun cringed at the name. Clever thieves with high agility and skills above average. It was obvious that this wasn’t something he should toy around with. This case had been given to him two years ago, yet never was he as close as he was right now. That was, before the occurrence that happened two nights ago took place.
Elbows on his desk, Park Yoochun flipped through the pages of the file book, his eyes focused on the images of the leader more than the associates.
Name: Jung Yunho
Gender: Male
Wanted for: Robbery, assassination, forgery
Status: Unfettered
Name: Furuya Keita
Gender: Unknown
Wanted for: Espionage, robbery, arson
Status: Unfettered
With eyebrows furrowing, Yoochun forced his mind to lock in the information. He was not going to give up the case, no matter what. Not a chance.
Name: Kim Junsu
Gender: Male:
Wanted for: Robbery, kidnapping, espionage, assassination
Status: Unfettered
A hint of fury grazed the features of the officer; his fists unknowingly curling up into balls. His jaw clenched as he stared at the picture of the known criminal. Kim Junsu… His fury for the other man wasn’t only because of his defiance to the law.
For Park Yoochun, it meant something else. It meant something much more personal.
Yoochun’s thoughts clouded with memories… Yoohwan… He felt his vision begin to blur as he remembered that one person. Shaking his head, he fought the urge to cry. He doesn’t have the right to cry.
Not after failing to safeguard what’s his.
…
Four months ago...
The dark sky had not one star. The air was chilly, with it flew withered autumn leaves, slowly making its way towards a noisy street.
Cars were sprawled to different directions as men positioned themselves behind the machines, guns gripped tightly in their hands towards the second floor of the abandoned old warehouse. The ‘secret’ hideout of Hazied, the most wanted underground group.
“Surrender, delinquent! Or you’ll suffer the consequences!” the leader of the group spoke, his aim unrelenting and full of focus.
Up above the high balcony of the old warehouse, the offender spoke, “Bullshit. You all expect far too much,” he let out a sarcastic laugh. Stoically, he pointed his gun at the leader, returning the same glare, “Deputy Commissioner, let us go or he’ll suffer the consequences.”
The policemen exchanged confused looks, puzzlement clear in their faces.
“This is your second chance. Kim Junsu, surrender with your associates. Surrender now or we’ll shoot! ” the leader answered.
The criminal merely gave an amused chuckle, “You really are something, aren’t you, Park Yoochun?”
A look of utter bewilderment came over Yoochun as he watched the criminal snatched something, rather someone behind him from the inside. He couldn’t see but he could feel his heart beating at an unbelievable rate.
A gunshot was heard inside the warehouse; the policemen jumped at the sudden sound.
Unexpectedly, a blood-stained body was thrown onto the balcony; the body bumped the weak wooden rail and crashed down the dirty cemented ground with a sickening, cracking sound.
He took cautious steps towards the body, his gun still pointed at the now deserted balcony. Slowly, he let his gaze drop down to the growing pool of blood.
His heart leapt as he recognized the body.
He dropped his gun and went over to aid his brother, unknowingly giving the criminals the chance to escape.
…
The ringing of the telephone snapped him out of his reverie. Immediately, he stretched his hand out to the phone, “What?”
“Sir, somebody wants to meet with you right now.”
“Name?”
“Kim Jaejoong.”
“Let him in.”
Almost immediately, a figure entered the room. He greeted the other man with a delighted smile and walked over to sit on one of the unoccupied chairs in front of the main desk.
“Mr. Park—”
“What do you want?”
Jaejoong furrowed his eyebrows then frowned, “Man, chill…”
Yoochun averted his gaze and asked once more, “What do you want?”
“Kim Junsu.”
“Oh, you’re looking for him? Wait a second,” Yoochun put on a mocking face and stood up to check his pockets, “Oh, I’m sorry. I don’t have him in my pockets, maybe I threw him—”
“Commissioner, please stop. I get the point,” Jaejoong waved his hand at Yoochun and morphed his face into a serious one.
Seeing the expression on the other man’s face, Yoochun chuckled, “What about Kim Junsu?” He sat back down on his seat and crossed his arms on his mahogany desk.
“Would you believe me if I tell you where he will be tonight?”
Yoochun looked at him with a piercing look, searching for something. “Would you care if I asked you whether you are trying to trick me?”
“Mr. Park, why do you doubt me?”
“Your are his brother, why shouldn’t I?”
“Biologically, yes. I don’t consider him as my brother anymore.” Jaejoong’s face saddened and gave a look of it’s-something-personal.
Yoochun studied the other man’s expression carefully; something inside him was telling him to believe the other man. With a sigh, he spoke, “Okay, where will he be at tonight?”
…
“What are we doing here?” Changmin asked, obviously annoyed at his companion.
Giving the other an analyzing look, he replied, “Shut up and just follow me.” He then proceeded to enter the wooden door of the structure only to be met by total darkness. He reached out to the side to find a light switch and flicked it.
Inside, the two scanned the abandoned boxes and dirt scattered everywhere…
A sound from the left startled both officers; both averted their gazes to the sound as they pulled out their guns towards the noise. Beside Yoochun, Changmin darted towards the open door where the sound came from.
“I’ll go check-”
“Stay alert.” Yoochun reminded him as he eyed Changmin’s retreating form until it went inside the dark room disappeared into the shadows. Trying his best to focus, Yoochun turned his gaze towards the other side of the lobby; he noticed a newspaper lying loosely on the dusty floor. Intrigued, he walked towards the object, temporarily placing his gun on one of the abandoned boxes.
He picked up the broadsheet and eyed the front page.
‘Hazied, the underground group escapes once again!’
He flipped through the pages and printed images of the occurrence that made themselves known to him. But only one picture caught his eye. The picture of his brother lying in a pool of blood.
A sharp pain attacked him from his skull. Yoochun brought his hands up to his head, trying to ease the pain eating its way through him. Weakened, he slumped down onto his knees and winced in pain.
Dammit – Why must there be another panic attack right now?
"What is a Deputy Commissioner doing on his knees, leaving his gun unattended?" A voice behind him said.

This chapter was mostly left as it should stand, just because it was written by my co-writer and her work was just amazing and I just wanted to treasure the memory. This chapter itself let a peak on what ground does Yoochun stands on (and of course, to why he was so angry with Junsu]. ^^
