Chapter 39

Jay - Bonus.

"Let's go for a walk." she suggested suddenly. I could only nod stupidly at her.

We walked hand in hand in silence around town after that embarrasing episode. Along the roads, into shopping centres, up the escalators. No conversation, no shopping, no aim, simply walking. And I was enjoying every moment of this silence together.

The moment she came over to whisper in my ear just now, I think I freezed for a moment before melting into a pile of goo. Man, was I shocked!

'Er... *cough* Er... Not bad.' What lame reply was that! Not bad? HUH? I mentally kicked myself for that.

I gave a her sidelong glance. Liwen seemed to be absorbed in her own happy world. She was slightly grinning at the corners of her glossed lips and there was a slight bounce when she walked. Signs of happiness.

"*cough* What are you thinking about?" I said finally, breaking the silence after so long.

She only gave a smile and no reply. I guess she wants to enjoy the peace some more. I didn't mind it anyway. After not seeing her for some time, just accompanying her, just feeling her presence is enough to fulfil me.

I had no idea where we were walking to, we had gone into many buildings and past many other infrastructures. I guess it was quite far from my hotel. Singapore is a really beautiful country, its like a paradise. Even if it was in the city, there's a feeling of home.

This small island without natural landscapes like forests and mountains to talk of, yet have greenery at every angle I turn. The irony of it all.

Two girls were giving me weird looks as we passed by them.

"... He looks like Jay Chou!" One of them said excitedly.

The hair on my back stood.

"Quite huh... Who's that girl? Jay should be in Taiwan now shouldn't he? There aren't reports of him coming here anyway..." The other was doubtful.

"Yeah... But that guy really looked like him!"

"Nah... MY Jay Chou looks better... Hahaha."

"Yours? He's mine!"

Their giggling voices faded away.

I felt Liwen pull me closer. I tightened my grip on her hand. Worry was written all over her face.

"Don't worry." I said, not sure if trying to calm her nerves or mine.

It was getting dark. I wonder how long we had walked. The soles of my feet were starting to ache, though it was worth it.

"Are you hungry?" She asked.

"A little. Wanna go for dinner?" I asked, though I didn't have a clue where we were.

And as if she could read my mind she replied, "You can suggest a place to go for dinner? I'm the tour guide today. You're in my territory."

"Yes, boss." I said, with a teasing tone.

"I suggest..." Liwen thought for a moment, scratching her chin, "...We go my place." She winked at me suggestively.

My jaw almost dropped onto the ground. This isn't Liwen is she? She's possessed, right?

She was laughing at my shocked expression. I was at a loss for words.

"I didn't mean it that way! My mother cooks absolutely wonderful chicken rice, you like that dish don't you?" HOW DID SHE KNOW!

"I read in some article you HAVE to eat Hainanese chicken rice when you come here. My mother cooks even better chicken rice than the one selling in Beach Road." She said, with pride in her voice.

"You're inviting me to *cough* your house for dinner?" I said, finally able to regain my composure.

"Why not? I think my mother would like to meet 'The awfully polite boy over the phone' too."

Awfully polite boy? Haha.

That must be me! See, I told you I knew the tricks to win mothers over.

"Mothers love polite boys." I said, proud of my little achievement. "Let's go buy something for her, to complete my 'awfully polite boy' image."

She peered at me with suspicion in her eyes.

"You do know a thing or two, don't you?"

"How can I be diao enough if I don't know some tricks?" I grinned.

We ended up buying a basket of fruits nicely wrapped in plastic as a visiting gift for Liwen's mother. As expected, she was quite pleased at me, the awfully polite boy.

This is good.

"This chicken rice is awesome, auntie!" I complimented.

"Told you." Liwen said.

Her mother just smiled and reminded us to get more helpings.

I sat at the sofa watching TV with my princess after dinner. Her mother wouldn't allow me to help her with the dishes.

"I'm glad enough you enjoyed the dinner. You're here to accompany my daughter, not me!" She teased, which left me slightly red in the face and at a loss of words.

I stared at Liwen's side view. Her eyes were fixed on the TV, that was showing... erm... me. I felt like going towards her, feeling her warmth in my embrace, but thought otherwise. Her mother would chase me out the door first thing. I gave a small sigh.

Like it was coordinated, she gave a sigh too. Slightly louder than mine though.

"What?" I asked.

"That's such a beautiful MV isn't it?"

"Ge Qian?" I asked.

"Yeah. I'll never get sick of watching it over and over again." She hugged the pillow tightly like some lovesick girl smitten with a some love story on TV. Hey! I planned the MV ok! Thank me!

"More like you'll never get sick of watching me on TV over and over again." I muttered, ego inflated. But she heard.

"Actually I wouldn't. But after hearing you say that, I might just puke! Haha!" She threw the pillow at me.

I glared at her. How dare she throw a pillow at Jay Chou!

"Stop squinting your slitty eyes! Or you can't see anymore!" She laughed.

"I wasn't squinting! You'll get it from me..." I threw a pillow back at her.

Oh no! She was charging towards me with two pillows! I've got to take cover. I turned towards the other direction, in fear of her throwing the pillows right at my face.

There was no movement.

I turned around and all I saw were two pillows slammed right in my face. Ouch! My nose!

"AH! My glasses!" I cried. If they broke I'll never be able to step out there again! Everyone would recognize me straight away!

Tap. It fell onto the floor. With just a tap. I picked it up to inspect it. Thank goodness its made of hard glass and wouldn't crack easily.

I adjusted my glasses back and caught Liwen staring right at me. Oh no my heart was thumping madly I think I could have melted. Why must she look at me like that?

She reached over and took the glasses off. She smiled.

"You're so cute, you know that?" She laughed.

I took my glasses from her hand and inched nearer towards her.

"You're so cute too, you know that?" I breathed into her ear, just like she did back at the cafe.

However, there was a bonus this time.

I paused for a moment before whispering again, "Can I kiss you?"

Her body seemed to tense up but she didn't say anything.

I put my hands on her shoulders and edged my face towards her left cheek.

And gave it a little peck.
