Ron scrutinized the crime scene, a three-room apartment on the forth storey on Geranium Street. A lady laid on the floor, in the kitchen, her face facing sidewards. Ron bent forward to take a closer look at the deceased female. She was wearing plain tee and pants. “She most probably was stabbed to death.” Ron thought.
“The deceased here is a female, aged thirty. Cause of death is a stab through her heart. The scratches on her arms show signs of struggles before her death. She was dead for only about thirty minutes. We will collect the available skin tissues to do a DNA match.” The pathologist who also specializes in forensic entomology concluded. “In addition, her body has not have moved. This is the primary crime scene.” Ron also made a mental note that there were no bloody footprints in the kitchen, hence, proving that the murderer had cleaned up this place.
Ron then looked around the house. Toys were scattered around and a bottle of milk was spilled. Ron used his fingers to touch the refrigerator and realises that there were chocolate stains and the stains were quite new. Furthermore, there was a chair beside the refrigerator. All these clues gave him the conclusion that there had been the presence of a young child in the house as well. He then signaled two of his subordinates to search for the child.
“Sir, we have found him.” A lady police officer then led Ron into a small room. Inside a wooden closet, a child of about five years old is hiding in it. He was trembling with fear and he mumbled profusely, “Don’t beat my mummy. Uncle, please. Don’t beat my mummy…”
“Uncle?” Ron thought. Moments later, the child was finally persuaded into leaving the closet. “He is to be under protection.” Ron ordered. Walking around the crime scene, Ron realises that there are some blood stains on the windows in the kitchen. He bent forward to see what was outside of the window and he got a shock.
Outside the window, a male body was lying outside. Blood was still trickling out from his head and also his feet had been severely hurt as well.
“HEY! HE IS STILL BREATHING! GET AN AMBULANCE! QUICK!” Ron shouted.
After about two hours later, the police force managed to get a portrait of the “Uncle” from the little boy who was the deceased’s son. It seems that the boy had overheard the heated arguments between his mother and the “Uncle” that he quickly gave up his milk and the chocolate he had been taking and eating from the fridge and hastily hid in his comfort zone- the wooden closet in his mother’s room. Portraits of this man were immediately sent out to the public and media.
After another three hours, the male body was saved. He survived and said that he was the deceased’s husband. This was further checked and it is the truth. The man’s name was Stephen and he said that he has came back home to collect something he has forgotten to take though he has already left for work earlier. Little did he expect, his wife was kissing passionately with another man in the child’s room.
Stephen then got into a fight with the adulterer. The deceased started screaming and shouting. This was probably the time when the child ran into the closet in the deceased’s room. They fought from the room into the kitchen and the deceased picked up the knife and threatened to kill both of them if they kept on fighting. The adulterer got pissed off and snatched the knife away. He used the knife and started attacking Stephen. Stephen then decided to play dead as the adulterer had become totally out of control. He had already pushed the deceased onto the floor several times when she tried to stop him.
With Stephen ‘dead’, the deceased was deeply shocked. The adulterer tried to hug her and said that they could be together now but when the deceased saw the blood on his hands, she screamed. The adulterer was angered and uncontrollable now, he then stabbed her. Everything was out of control. Out of Stephen’s prediction and understanding, the adulterer kicked him a few more times angrily and he then moved Stephen behind the windows. One step off, Stephen would really fall to death. By then, however, Stephen really had lost all his strength to struggle or even call for help.
In total, after about seven hours after the discovery of the deceased, the culprit was caught.
His name was Charles Tan. He has been having an affair with the deceased, Michelle Wong, for a few weeks. He admitted to murdering both Stephen and Michelle in anger. “What? Stephen is not dead? Are you kidding me? I remember hitting him real hard and kicking him violently afterwards.” Charles said, his eyes revealing satisfaction but no guilt.
“Why did you hide him behind the windows?” Ron’s subordinate, May, asked.
“Is the police force dumb or is it you who have no brains?” Charles smirked with triumph.
“To mislead the police.” Ron replied calmly, his arms folded.
Charles gave Ron the look to ask him to continue speaking.
“With Stephen missing, the main suspect will be him. His motive will be money and love. Stephen’s only receives a meager salary every month and he gambles frequently. Often, he has to rely on his wife, Michelle, to repay the debts. With Michelle out of the way, he can claim the inheritance. Also, he should have sensed that his wife was getting tired of him. So, to keep his wife back, he may have become so desperate to resort to killing her to keep her with him. Am I right?” Ron asked, staring at Charles.
“Smart. That is indeed my intention!” Charles confessed proudly.
“Thanks for the compliment. However, Mr Charles, you forgot about scientific evidence and also witnesses, these two main keys. Though the fingerprints on the knife have been cleaned off, you have left several fingerprints in both the child’s room and the kitchen. Not only that, you neglected the presence of the child who happens to witness this horrible fight between you adults. You are now arrested for murder.” Ron concluded and walked off, leaving his subordinates to complete the rest of the work.
Ron has one more thing to do. The innocent child.
“Hey, Ian! Can you help to answer some questions?” Ron asked politely, patting the boy on his head. “Don’t be scared. I am a policeman. I won’t harm you.”
The boy nodded his head. The fear in his eyes was still present.
“Do you know your daddy is home just now, when you hear Mummy scream?”
“No. I am eating chocolates then I hear Mummy screaming and also Uncle scolding dirty words. Mummy doesn’t like people scolding dirty words, she says it is impolite and warns me not to ever do that.” Ian replied, in his childlike voice. Ron nodded his head and smiled, assuring Ian.
“Why do you hide in the closet in Mummy’s room?”
“I got scared. Mummy never screams. The closet is very safe. No one can find me there. Even Mummy doesn’t know. I like being inside the closet. Inside no one can find me, so it is very safe, you know?”
“Why you ask Uncle Charles not to hit Mummy?”
Ian shrugged his shoulders and his brows arched upwards. “Sometimes, I see Uncle on top of Mummy in Mummy’s room. I am in the closet. Then I hear Mummy shouts in pain, “No. No. Don’t use so much force.” I then think that Uncle is bullying Mummy. So when I hear Mummy screaming and Uncle shouting dirty words, I think Uncle is bullying Mummy again.”
“Ok. Thank you, Ian. You can go see your daddy now.” Ron held the boy’s hands and led him out, to the hospital.
“Police Kor Kor (elder brother), where are Mummy and Uncle? Can you help me catch Uncle and ask him to stop bullying Mummy? I am too small now but I will learn to protect Mummy as I get older.” Ian stated determinedly.
Ron then squatted down and told Ian, “Mummy has gone to Heaven, a faraway land. She is not coming back but she is going to watch you from there. So you must be a good boy and listen to your Daddy. As for your Uncle, he will never bully your mummy anymore.”
“I will never see my Mummy again?” Ian asked sadly, his tears rolling down his chubby cheeks. Ron nodded his head solemnly and hugged Ian. “But Uncle also cannot bully your Mummy ever again.” Ron encouraged Ian.
“Promise?” Ian held his pinky up.
“Promise.” Ron then hooked his pinky with Ian and completed the promise. A big smile spreaded on Ian’s face.
Ian later stayed with his Daddy and Stephen vowed not to gamble anymore and would take good care of Ian.
Case closed.

“Angel!”
Leila turned her head to face Daniel and smiled sweetly. “Yes, my dear Daniel. I have missed you so much.”
“Angel, I miss you too.” The two then hugged each other in the room.
“So how’s your life?” Leila asked.
“Well, not very smooth. Angel, remember about my childhood playmate that I have told you about, the one I made a silly childish promise to marry her? She has came back to find me to fulfill that promise but now I am going out with Jacqueline. My mother also starts to matchmake me with another girl since she does not really like Jacqueline. It’s …” Daniel rambled.
Leila just smiled and listened. Afterall, her main job as a companion buddy was to be a good listener and a good friend to her clients. In Eternity, no one knew her real name, Leila Tong, except Nancy. However, even Nancy calls her Angel, her working name, in Eternity.
In Eternity, she was an angel who earned her money legally and would patiently listen and advised her clients kindly. Leila once again smiled, as she pictured herself in her mind being an angel with the silly wings and everything.
“Angel, what do you think I should do now?”
“Well …”
