"So you are originally from Australia? That is so cool. I've always wanted to visit there." Eunhyuk said as he stepped out of the car.
"Oh its so lovely, especially at the beach. I think America has better beaches though." Kim walked up to the front door. "Eunhyuk, I would like to welcome you to the mayor's humble abode." Kim laughed and opened the door for Eunhyuk.
Eunhyuk laughed back and looked inside the house.
His smile turned upside down.
His heart stopped pumping blood.
His blood stopped running through his veins.
His lungs stopped taking in air.
His brain stopped working.
For a split second every part of his body was frozen.
He stared at the young man in the hallway. He was fixing his hair in the mirror. He was wearing a sleek, black dress suit. His body seemed to be emitting a completely different aura.
"Uh, this is the mayor's house?" Eunhyuk spun around to Kim and asked.
"Yes, is there a problem?" Kim asked, concerned by Eunhyuk's worried manner.
"Uhm nothing it just feels like I've been here before..." Eunhyuk said, covering up his true feelings.
"Oh," Kim nodded, trying to understand Eunhyuk's odd ways, "Uh Donghae," Kim called out to Donghae, "I would like you to meet the young man that saved your father."
"Father?" Eunhyuk croaked out.
Donghae turned from the mirror and looked at Kim and the boy with his back turned to him.
Who is this kid?
He is wearing a suit too small for him.
Is he that tacky?
Hey, wait he looked familiar.
"Ah, please, let me thank you from the bottom of my heart. I don't know what I would do if I lost another parent." Donghae extended his hand towards the boy.
Eunhyuk clenched his teeth and turned towards Donghae.
Donghae's jaw dropped. His eyes grew wider. "Eu-" He tried to speak. "Eun...hyuk?" He stuttered out.
Eunhyuk took Donghae's hand and shook it. "I just did what anyone would do." Eunhyuk smiled and acted like he had no history with Donghae.
"Do you two know each other?" Kim asked.
Donghae tried to speak first, but Eunhyuk beat him to it. "No, well not personally. Donghae is actually my senior at school. This is the first time I've actually met him though." Eunhyuk lied.
Donghae felt something inside him change. Eunhyuk's words, though not completely hostile, hurt him badly inside. "Eunhyuk?" Donghae whispered.
Kim didn't hear Donghae's whisper, but Eunhyuk did. Eunhyuk gave Donghae an odd look. He gave him the look you give a lost puppy that won't stop following you after many times of telling it "Go home!". Donghae felt Eunhyuk's eyes stabbing at his soul. He couldn't take it any longer.
"I'm going to go check on my girlfriend real quick. Pardon me." He quickly rushed up the main staircase and up to his room.
"Heh, I wonder what's up with him. He usually is a real talker. I expected him to stand here and ramble on about you saving his father's life and how grateful he is of that." Kim said, confused by Donghae's actions and lack of words.
"Well, his girlfriend was probably waiting for him up in his room." Eunhyuk explained.
"True..." Kim said, her voice sounded a little suspicious. She could definitely tell something was going on between Eunhyuk and Donghae. "Well, I know someone that is waiting for us, come, let us go into the dining hall and meet with the mayor." Kim wrapped her arm around Eunhyuk's and led him through the elegant house.
"There's the man of the hour! Eunhyuk!" The mayor placed his glass of red whine on the table and walked over to Eunhyuk. He clasped onto Eunhyuk's hand and shook then violently. It was quite apparent this man had been drinking a little too much, even this early in the night.
"Heh, good evening sir." Eunhyuk shook the mayor's hand back.
"Whoa! What a grip you have their son! You know, if my Donghae had been born a girl, I would give you her hand in marriage!" He laughed. His laugh was loud and full. It scared Eunhyuk a little bit.
"Heh," Eunhyuk tried to laugh with him. "Hah hah hah." Eunhyuk laughed harder this time. Not at the joke the mayor had just cracked, but out of the pure irony of the situation.
"Well, come," The mayor led Eunhyuk towards a small group of people, "I want you to meet my lovely wife, Veronica." The mayor held an open palm at the young, bleached blond, women in front of him.
Eunhyuk stared at the woman. She looked like she had gotten a little too much plastic surgery and botox injections. "Good evening Miss." Eunhyuk said politely.
"Oh! Oh!" She cheered. "I cannot thank you enough for saving my husband!" She grabbed hold of Eunhyuk and strangled him in a big bear hug.
"Heh," Eunhyuk manage to get a chuckle out, "All in a day's work." He joked. Everyone in the group laughed.
Veronica let go of Eunhyuk and started laughing along. "He's a gentleman, funny, and cute! Perfect man if you ask me!" Veronica laughed.
"Yeah, honey, guess what I told him. I told him if our Donghae was born a girl I would give him her hand in marriage!" The mayor hollered and laughed that big and full laugh of his.
Eunyhuk faked a smile and a laugh. He didn't find the joke funny the second time.
"If I was born a girl, though, I wouldn't be able to date a girl like Sophia!" Donghae spoke up as he entered the room with the always lovely Sophia by his side.
"Ah Donghae, my son, have you met Eunhyuk?" The mayor asked.
"Yes, we met earlier in the front hallway." Donghae lied. His voice was back to normal and his manner of speaking was that of the Donghae everyone knew and loved.
Eunhyuk tilted his head a little bit, he was confused by Donghae's sudden mood change. "Yeah, and we actually attend the same school. Donghae is my senior." Eunhyuk explained.
"Oh? Isn't that an odd twist of fate? A boy that studies under my son is responsible for saving my life. Life works in mysterious ways." The mayor said.
Eunhyuk couldn't help but smirk to himself. The irony of everything was just to funny. The boy who broke his heart is the son of the man he just saved. "Yeah, real mysterious ways." Eunhyuk said while staring into Donghae's eyes.
"Are we just going to stand here and talk or are we going to eat?" Donghae spoke up.
"Right! I'm starved how about you Eunhyuk?" The mayor asked. "Super heroes have a big appetite, eh?" He laughed.
Eunhyuk laughed back. "Sure." He said.
"Come you can sit next to me." Kim tugged on his arm. He followed her around to the other side of the dining table and sat down in the middle of the table.
Donghae and Sophia took their seats across from Eunhyuk and Kim. Donghae glared at Eunhyuk. Eunhyuk glared back.
The mayor took his seat at the head of the table, and his wife at the other end. The rest of the guests took the seats beside Eunhyuk, Kim, Donghae, and Sophia.
Eunhyuk kept quiet for the first half of the meal. The food they had brought out was like nothing he had eaten before; Steak with a baked potato and a large tossed salad. The steak was so tender and juicy. He guessed it to be at least a forty dollar piece of meat. The baked potato was so fresh and soft with fresh chives and sour cream on top. The salad tasted as if it were just picked from the garden and lightly drizzled in olive vinaigrette.
"How was the steak Eunhyuk?" The mayor asked once Eunhyuk finished his food.
"Delicious, one of the best I've ever had." He said, when truth be told it was the only steak he had ever had.
"You still have room for dessert right? The cooks make the best chocolate souffle!" Veronica piped in.
"Ah sounds delicious!" Eunhyuk cheered, though he had never had a souffle either. "Uh before we start dessert may I be excused to the restroom?" Eunyhuk asked.
"Certainly. Donghae," The mayor nudged his head towards the dining room door, "why don't you show Eunhyuk where the restroom is."
Donghae wanted to object, but he reluctantly agreed and led Eunhyuk out of the dining room. "Its right around the corner to your left." Donghae pointed and said with apathy.
"You never told me your father was the mayor." Eunhyuk faced Donghae.
"You didn't have to go and save him like that. You could have died." Donghae mumbled.
"Your father would have died. Besides, why would you care if I lived or died?" Eunhyuk pouted.
"You could have let someone else save him. And I don't care. I'm just saying is all." Donghae argued.
"No one else was around so I had to step in. And I'm still alive so what's the point arguing over it?" Eunhyuk argued back.
"I'm not arguing." Donghae argued.
"Sounds like you are." Eunhyuk shot back.
Donghae sighed. "I'm sorry."
"For what?" Eunhyuk asked, his expression and manner of speaking had changed from harsh to sincere.
"The restroom is on right around the corner to your left." Donghae repeated and retreated back down the hallway.
Eunhyuk stood there puzzled. Why was Donghae apologizing? Was it for arguing? Was it for breaking my heart? What was it for?
Eunhyuk quickly did his business and rushed back to dining room. As he entered waiters with small silver platters came out and placed them at each seat. They removed the lids and revealed an elegant chocolate souffle.
Eunhyuk took his seat and let the aroma of the dessert fill his nose. His mouth started to water. He couldn't wait to enjoy this souffle.
"Before everyone starts, I have an announcement to make." Donghae spoke up. Everyone looked at Donghae. He had a fearful, but excited face. "I," He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small box. He stood up and pushed his seat away from him.
He got down on his knee and popped open the box. "Sophia Kwon, will you take my hand in marriage?"
