Chapter 9

Donghae pulled away from the kiss and stared at Eunhyuk. His mind yelled at him to explain, but he could only stare.

"Donghae, who's this?" Sophia pointed at Eunhyuk. "And are those the sleeping pants I got you for your birthday?" Sophia scoffed. "Why is he wearing your clothes?"

Donghae didn't reply.

"I forgot my uniform here." Eunhyuk spoke quietly. His heart was breaking inside of him.

"What! Donghae, who is this!" Sophia stomped.

Donghae looked down at the ground. "Ah-eh-" He struggled to say. "I," He looked up at Sophia.

"Explain yourself!" She shouted.

"I-I, Eunhyuk," He went back to looking at Eunhyuk. "I" Donghae repeated.

"Who is this!" Sophia glared at Donghae.

Donghae started to say something when Eunhyuk spoke up. "I'm Eunhyuk. I'm a junior at Jefferson High. I live at the orphanage you two delivered presents at. Yesterday night I met up with Donghae to give my thanks for the present when I tripped and got my uniform all muddy. Donghae offered to clean it for me and lent me some clothes while it cleaned. I had to leave yesterday and forgot to pick up my uniform." Eunhyuk told Sophia. Eunhyuk turned to Donghae for the finishing line. "Donghae, I'll wash up your clothes and return them to you at school." He tried to smile, but couldn't. Not at Donghae. Not right now. Not without crying.

Sophia thought for a minute. "Okay." She smiled. "Ah, that's my Donghae for you! Always helping those less fortunate!" She grabbed hold of Donghae's face and planted another kiss on him.

Eunhyuk felt the last chamber of his heart shatter into a million pieces. "Yeah, he's a great guy." Eunhyuk struggled to get out. He took a deep breath in to keep from crying again.

Donghae pulled out of the kiss. "I'll go get your uniform..." Donghae said. He ran up the steps and up to his room.

Sophia turned to Eunhyuk and smiled cheerfully. "He always helps people out. I tell he'll never make in politics if he is always nice." Sophia sighed.

"He's a great guy. You're lucky to have him." Eunhyuk said, his voice defeated.

"I'm going to go into the kitchen and get something to eat, do you want anything?" Sophia offered.

Eunhyuk shook his head. "No, thank you."

"Okay." She left the room leaving Eunhyuk alone.

Donghae grabbed Eunhyuk's backpack and uniform and rushed down the stairs. He expected to see Sophia with Eunhyuk, but she was no where in sight.

Donghae ran up to Eunhyuk and handed him his uniform and backpack. "Eunhyuk she kis-," Donghae started to explain himself.

"Donghae," Eunhyuk interrupted, "you don't have to explain to me. She's your girlfriend. I should have known I didn't really mean anything to you. Goodbye." Eunhyuk took his things and left the house.

Donghae felt his world crash down upon him.

'I should have known I didn't really mean anything to you.'

Eunhyuk's words replayed in his head.

Donghae didn't know what to do. His mind couldn't process the situation. His body felt weird inside, as if there was nothing in there. It was like Eunhyuk's words pierced through him and ripped out his soul.

Sophia stood at the doorway to the kitchen. She heard everything Eunhyuk had said. "'I should have known I didn't really mean anything to you.'" Sophia repeated to herself. "What did he mean by that?" She whispered.

Eunhyuk ran as fast as he could home. His eyes were to dry to cry.

When Eunhyuk got to the orphanage he saw he saw some nuns standing outside. Eunhyuk casually walked up to them.

"Ah! Eunhyuk! Please hurry inside, we have good and bad news." A nun cried.

Eunhyuk felt an odd presence in the air. He suspiciously walked into the house and followed the nuns to the main dining room.

All of the other orphans stared up at Eunhyuk. "Eunhyuk!" Some kids ran up to Eunhyuk and gave him a hug. Eunhyuk patted all their heads and struggled to walk to the dining table.

The nuns walked into the dining room. "Children we have some good and bad news to tell you." One nun informed.

The children gasped. "Give us the bad news first!" The cried.

Another nun stepped forward. "Some people from the county department of commissions stopped by the other day to inform us that there is going to be a new department building in this neighborhood. The bad news is, they need to demolish this building to make way for the new building."

Some kids shrieked. Eunhyuk sat up in his seat, now very interested in what was going on.

"The good news, though, is we have found new orphanages and homes for all of you. And we contacted some of your birth parents and a couple of your parents are willing to take you back home!" The nun cheered.

Eunhyuk felt a sudden sensation of fear fall on him. His heart started to race. His palms started to sweat. The hair on his arms stood on ends.

"Chelsea, Micheal, Macy, and Eunhyuk, please come into the main hall and speak with Sister Margret." The same nun announced.

Eunhyuk gulped. He knew what that meant. He got up with the other children that were named and walked into the main hall.

"We have gotten in contact with your birth parents and are going to take you back home." The nun cheered as if it was the best news in the world for the kids.
