"What would you two handsome young gentlemen like to get today?" she asked cheerfully.
Before his best friend could even respond, Arron replied "We will like a cappuccino for him and nothing for me" as he gestured down at his cup of frappuccino.
Surprised that he can still remember what his all-time best friend always ordered, he turned to look at his friend and asked "Is that correct, Wang Zi?" as if to confirm if he's right.
Seeing his best friend's slight nod of acknowledgement in agreement, Arron continued on “Do you want a slice of cake with that?”
Wang Zi shook his head and the waiter left the table, leaving them two to talk in total privacy.
Without wasting a minute, Wang Zi began with a “How are you, Arron? How have you been doing? Why did you suddenly call me out today?”
Not wasting any time for Arron knew that this was his chance to ask Wang Zi.
Hurriedly Arron began a little hesitantly as the waiter came back with Wang Zi’s drink “WAng Zi, do you think you can help me find someone?”
Surprised, Wang Zi choked on his drink and almost dropped it.
Wang Zi was extremely surprised for Arron is known to never ask for any type of help.
Of the two, Arron has always been the more independent one and will never ask for help with anything because to him it will be a sign of weakness and weak people can't win.
Wang Zi just continued to stare at Arron with a shocked look.
Seeing that Wang Zi is not going to respond anytime soon, Arron just took that as a ‘yes’ and continued on in a rush “CanyouhelpmefindHebe?”
Arron spoke so fast that Wang Zi was amazed that he barely heard the first word when Arron was already done, so he didn't understand what Arron had said.
Snapping out of his dazed wonder, Wang Zi said “Come again?”
Arron was so shocked that he himself could talk so fast that he stopped for a section before registering what Wang Zi said and replied in a low whisper with red flushed cheeks and a lowered head “Can you please help me find Hebe?” with emphasizes on the word ‘please’.
Surprised by Arron’s request, Wang Zi asked “Do you remember what she did to you?”
At Arron’s slight nod of acknowledgement, Wang Zi continued with a “Then why do you still want to find her now? after all this time? Don’t you think that she might just hurt you again?”
The frustrated Arron shook his head and said “I don’t know. I don’t know. All I know is that she haunts me whether it is day and night. I can’t focus on my work anymore and I can’t get the image of her in my mind out. It is like a picture of her has been super-glued into my mind and every little thing I see will remind me of her.”
Seeing his friend in such a depressed state, Wang Zi had no other choice but to agree to help.
Wang Zi nodded his head in a silent ‘yes’ and Arron’s face immediately brightened.
Wang Zi was extremely delighted in seeing his friend finally smile a ‘real’ smile for Arron had never smiled a ‘real’ smile, since the day he and Hebe broke up.
Don’t get me wrong, it is not like Arron hasn’t smiled during the whole time Hebe was gone, but it was never a sincere smile with etched in happiness but a smile that was either forced or faked.
Normally other people that barely know Arron wouldn’t be able to tell the difference, but as Arron’s long-time best friend, Wang Zi for sure could tell the difference.
Jokingly, Wang Zi said “I’ll help you, but I’m going to charge, okay?”
Arron threw a look at Wang Zi as if to say ‘how can you charge your very own best friend’, but only nodded and said ‘Okay.’ in reply for he was just too happy.
Seeing Arron’s respond, Wang Zi could only laugh and wanted to see how far he could push his luck.
All in one question, Wang Zi asked “How about two weeks of lunch and dinner plus the pay for finding her?”
Arron only nodded again as he started to plan his trip to see Hebe once Wang Zi gives him the packet containing all the information he will ever need about her.
Next Wang Zi asked “How about making that a yearly supply of food and the two weeks of going out to eat for lunch and dinner plus the pay to find her?”
At hearing the word ‘year’, Arron finally snapped out of his daze, thinking that Wang Zi had meant that ‘it’ll take a year or more to find Hebe’ and quickly shook his head ‘no’.
Wang Zi started laughing and said “Finally, our smart Arron has snapped out of his daze or else he’ll go poor buying me all the food I like to eat for a whole year.”
Arron could only respond with a “Huh?”, which only succeeded in making Wang Zi laugh even harder.
Arron only gave Wang Zi a weird look.
Realizing that Arron really didn’t know what he was talking about or what he said, Wang Zi tried to explain “Earlier I asked you if you’ll pay me for finding Hebe for you and two weeks of treating me out for lunch and dinner and providing me a yearly supply of food and you nodded your head yes.”
Arron finally understood the reason to Wang Zi’s laughter and joined in, saying “You wish, buddy. And anyways, even if I was to agree, your wife surely will not. She’ll probably think we are gay and dump you.”
Wang Zi only snorted and said “Not if we bring her along.”
Arron only laughed harder and said “No way. Are you trying to make me poor? What kind of good friend are you?”
Wang Zi replied nonchantly “An extremely nice one to make sure that you eat properly.”
Arron only laughed in reply.
They paid for the bill and exited the coffee-shop.
When they were about to separate at the parking lot to go on their own way to get their car, Arron said “You know what, Wang Zi?” and before Wang Zi could even shake or nod his head in a ‘no’ or ‘yes’ or say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ in reply, Arron continued on “If you can get me all the information on Hebe about what has happened to her during these past several months since we have separated in a week or less, I will treat you and your wife to a luxurious dinner at a top 5-star rated A restaurant before I leave to find her”.
Wang Zi stuck out his hand for Arron to shake and said "You can count on me for I'm Detective Wang Zi." and then together they said “Deal” and shook on it.
