With this, tears started to stream down Wang Zi’s eyes like two little rivers as fear and anger struck him hard in the gut at once upon realizing that he might just loose the love of his lifetime without even letting her know that he had always loved her despite him having a pregnant wife at home.
Frustrated with himself for putting them both into a position like this, he barged into the emergency room without a backward glance at the lady with the toddler that was exactly a young replicate of him.
In the large and silently death-like room, Wang Zi felt like a confined prisoner locked up with all his emotions and not being able to voice them out to
Gui Gui.
Slowly he pulled out the visitor seat and sat down, grasping a hold of Gui Gui’s small lifeless hand into his own gigantic one.
He broke into silent tears and lowered his head into his arms and murmured incoherently “Gui Gui… Gui Gui…. I love you. Please don’t leave me. I never stopped loving you.”
Suddenly Wang Zi’s head rose up inch by inch.
When his eyes were leveled up with Gui Gui’s fingers, he saw them moving to be free from his hands and heard the gentle cry of his name coming out from that so sweet mouth of her just as he had imagined.
Looking at her face, he saw her eyelids slowly flutter open to reveal two bright eyes staring back at him.
Enthusiastically, he quickly released her hands and went off call the doctor, passing the toddler on his way though not registering his existence.
When Wang Zi had made his way out, the toddler with the lady had made their way into Gui Gui’s room.
Gui Gui was sitting up, when she spotted her son.
Opening up her arms, she called out “Jacob Matthew, come give mommy a hug.”
The word “mommy” had barely left Gui Gui's mouth, when Wang Zi returned with the doctor.
Wang Zi’s face fell at the thought of Gui Gui with another man’s child.
He was about to walk back out, when the child saw him vanishing from the very corner of his eye and struggled out of his mom’s embrace to Wang Zi's side, shrieking happily “Daddy! Daddy!”.
Surprised and sadness was clearly etched into Wang Zi’s face as he carried the child back to the teary-eyed Gui Gui.
Gently, Wang Zi laid the smiling child down into the crook of Gui Gui’s arms before hurriedly turning around to take a step out so that they don’t see his tears.
He was almost out the door, when the doctor’s words brought his foot to a complete stop and he froze like he was rooted to the ground by thousands of nails covering every square inch of his foot.
The doctor’s simple words “He is your son. He is your son.” Could be heard loudly echoing in Wang Zi’s mind as he turned around to look at Gui Gui’s face.
The raw pain, uncertainty, and sadness in her eyes clawed at his heart and told him that what the doctor said was true, but he couldn’t help but to ask “How do you know?”
Smiling the doctor replied “Don’t you remember that I just introduced myself as Doctor Wu? And this here is Gui Gui Wu? Don’t you see something?”
The first thought that popped into Wang Zi’s mind was that they must be husband and wife, but he refused to believe in that thought.
The darkening and death glare he gave the doctor clearly conveyed all his emotions.
Hurrying to defend and protect himself from harm, the doctor said “No, no. We are not together. She is my sister and that’s my nephew. So I want them to get the happiness they deserve.”
With that the lady and the doctor left, leaving Gui Gui and Wang Zi to talk.
