Chapter 40

Heather 20

Wang Zi rushed into Arron's room in a hurry.

Barely catching his breath, Wang Zi asked in one single breath "How are you? Are you alright?"

Surprised Arron looked up and said "I'm alright. Catch you breath."

Wang Zi barely registered what Arron said, when he burst out "Did you know that Hebe is also in this hospital?"

Hearing the name 'Hebe' and the word 'hospital' in the same sentence, Arron's heart stopped.

He held his breath, whispering “Is…. is……is…..”

He gathered up all his courage before asking, shakily “Is she alright? What is she doing here?”

Wang Zi didn’t have time to answer, when Arron tried to get up in a flourish, but Wang Zi used one hand to push Arron back down onto the hospital bed.

Frustration rose and blood began to boil in Arron’s veins as he commanded Wang Zi to take him to Hebe’s side at once.

Trying to keep is temperature in check as his heart cried out for his friends, Wang Zi tried to calm Arron down without any success.

Finally, Wang Zi couldn’t help but to give up, two nurses arrived and got both Wang Zi and Arron into a wheelchair and began wheeling them towards Hebe’s room.

Along the way, no other sound besides the steady bustling day of hospital work and Arron's pounding heart can be heard.

They were each lost in their own thoughts, thinking of all the different problems they have yet got to solve.

They had just arrived at Hebe’s room, when a nurse cut in front of them into her room.

From just outside the door, they saw the nurse rushed to Hebe’s side with a beaming smile, saying cheerfully “Your daughter is alright now. We finally got the fever to go down and remain somewhat stable, but we still need to keep an eye on her for another day. So you can rest now, but please sign these papers.”

The nurse retreated, promising to return with the baby in a few minutes for feeding.

Gui Gui was glancing over the papers, when Arron wanted to leave.

He was motioning for the nurse to push him back to his room, not even really acknowledging the fact that Gui Gui is there until he heard her speak up.

Curiously, Gui Gui asked with her eyes still on the paper “Who are you going to list for the baby’s father? And what will her name be?”

Without a moment of hesitation, Hebe replied “Arron Yan. Her whole name will be Heather Yan.”

A surprised gasp flew out of Arron’s mouth, drawing all the attention to himself.

Hebe’s eyes flew open in surprise before sadness flashed in.

At long last, she veiled her eyes, turning away as if she haven’t seen him, but tears had already began to dripped down her pale porcelain cheeks and onto her blankets with a gentle ‘plop, plop’.

Seeing this, Arron couldn’t help but to fly out of the wheelchair and rush to her side, ignoring the throbbing pain of his head.

He gathered her into his arms and the tears began to drip steadily down both of their face, wetting their hospital gowns.

So without another word, Gui Gui, Wang Zi, and all the nurses left, disappearing out the door.
