Raymond exhaled and flopped down on a chair. He didn't know what was happening. Bosco came up to Nick. "Well, this man came and said that he was beaten today and the person who did it was Raymond," Bosco explained. Nick frowned and he turned to Raymond who had his head in his hands.
"Raymond, come with me," Nick said and he walked towards his office. Raymond got up from his chair and was about to follow when Leila held him back.
"Raymond, don't worry, we all believe you didn't do it," she said. Raymond nodded and followed Nick into the room. Bosco looked over at Leila. He could tell that she really liked him. Nick asked him to sit down on a chair across from him as he too sat down. He put both elbows on the table and looked at Raymond in the eyes.
"Well? Explanation?" Nick finally said.
"What explanation? I didn't do it," was Raymond's reply.
"I know you didn't do it, but what I want to know is why this man came all the way here with bruises all over his body to frame you," Nick said.
"I really don't know, I saw him earlier today and he said that my uncle owed his boss money. I told him that I would pay the money back for my uncle and then he left, I didnˇ¦t see him after that, how am I supposed to beat him then?" Raymond said, infuriated.
"Calm down," Nick said as he tried to calm him down. "You said that you only saw him once today and you didn't beat him like this, then where did you go after you saw him?" Nick asked.
"I..." Raymond trailed off. "I'm not too sure, I just walked around, I wasn't even sure where I walked by because my mind was just so full of stuff that I didn't even know what I was doing. Then after that I went to take the bus back here," Raymond answered.
"Do you know if there are any witnesses at all during the time you last saw him and the time you came back?" Nick questioned.
Raymond thought for a moment. He was thinking too deeply to have noticed anybody, and he didn't do anything or wear anything special, why would anybody notice him? The only person he saw that afternoon was Tavia. "No, there's no one who can prove that I was alone during that time," he finally said.
"This is bad," Nick sighed. There was a soft knock on the door. "Come in."
Bosco opened and entered through the doors. "I told Mr. Chan to return home and we'll take care of this," Bosco stated. "He insists that it was Raymond who beat him, he said that he went to ask his uncle back for the money he borrowed and then after he left, Raymond went after him and he beat him up," Bosco added. "I've asked him over a million times, but he's still saying that it's Raymond. We might have to press charges on Raymond," Bosco said.
Raymond ran his hand through his hair. "I didn't do it though," he said softly.
"Don't worry Raymond, if you didn't do it, you won't be wrongly accused for it," Nick comforted him. "How about you take a break for now, we'll give you a ring later alright?" Nick gave him an encouraging smile.
Raymond sighed and nodded a little. He then got up and left the room. "If thereˇ¦s nothing else, then I'll leave," Bosco said. Nick nodded and Bosco also left the room. When he exited, he saw Leila by Raymond. She had a worried look on her face and she was holding onto his arm. He looked pretty tired and he didn't really seem like he's in the mood to answer Leila's questions. He said something, then he flung Leila's hand off of his arm and he marched out of the room. Bosco went up to Leila.
"You ok?" he asked.
"Of course I'm ok, Raymond is the one who isn't OK," Leila frowned.
Without even realizing it, Tavia was driving towards the West Kowloon police station. She passed by the building and she saw Raymond walking out of it. Not too far away she saw another man with bruises all over his face. She turned away from the man and back to Raymond. She slowed down her car and she watched Raymond walk madly to his car, opened the door and slammed it shut. He then turned on the engine and drove out. Tavia made a U-Turn and she was about to follow Raymond when someone in the corner of her eye caught her attention. Before she continued, she turned to her side and saw a girl looking forward into the distance where Raymond drove off. Tavia recognized the girl. She saw a picture of her when she was checking up Philip and John Sek.
"That's Philip's daughter, what is she doing here?" Tavia thought. "Well, she has a right to be anywhere she wants to," Tavia thought. She shrugged and turned back to face the front and drove down the street after Raymond.
Raymond shook his head as he drove down the street. He breathed deeply, hoping to breathe out all his troubles, but it didn't work. He didn't understand why he was being framed by this man that he only saw once. It couldn't be because his uncle won't pay him back because he promised to pay back for his uncle. Then what is his point? And who was it that had beaten him up? All these questions were swirling in his mind as he drove and he didnˇ¦t even notice that the green light in front of him had turned yellow then red. His car was still speeding down the lane and he was reaching the intersection. He was still thinking and driving. Suddenly, he heard a loud beep coming from behind which brought him back to reality. He realized that he was just about to run through a red light so he immediately braked the car and came to a stop just before the intersection. He looked in front of him and saw the cars zooming by, if the person behind him hadn't beeped him, he would have continued going and maybe even killed himself. "That teaches me not to think and drive at the same time," he said. "Note to self, you can't multitask," he whispered to himself. He then thought back to who it was that had beeped him. He turned around, but didn't see anybody, but he heard someone drive by next to him. He looked forward again and saw that the light had turned green. A black Jaguar was in front of him not too far. He recognized the car. It was hers. "She saved me?" he thought. He shook his head and started forward slowly, eventually, he got to his home safely.
Tavia drove down a vacant street and slowed down in front of a tall building. She stopped on the street across from it and looked up. She counted the floors, "One, two, three, four, five," she said softly. She wrinkled her eyebrows and squinted to have a better look. The curtains were drawn and she couldn't see inside. She sighed. "Why are you doing this anyway? He's not going to forgive you, just leave his life alone, that's what he wants most," Tavia told herself. She looked away from the building and drove off.
Just as she drove off, Raymond walked over to his window and pulled open the curtains. The street was empty. He sighed and walked back to the living room. He had a white couch and a black sofa, a glass coffee table and a television set not too far away. He looked around his house. Nothing had changed since he left. He only came back not even a week ago and already he's having so much trouble. He walked over to the kitchen to get himself a glass of water. He opened the fridge and saw a jug of water, he reached for it but also noticed the cake beside it. He suddenly thought of Tavia.
"Look! I baked a cake, it's the first time, I hope you'll like it," he heard her voice echo in his ears.
"I'm sure, anything you make is good," his voice played in his head.
"Tavia... you..." he heard his voice trail off. He remembered that day very clearly. That was the day when his heart was shattered. He found out the one person he loved so dearly had betrayed him. She was an assassin. That was the very day he found out she was an assassin, and her partner was his very best friend.
He thought of that afternoon when he saw Tavia again on the streets. They only stared at each other from far. He could sense her guilt and pain through her features, her teary eyes.
He turned away from the cake and took the jug of water out. He poured himself a cup and brought it to the living room. He sat down on the sofa and reached over to his left for the remote control on the shelf. There just beside the remote control was a picture. A picture of him and Tavia. They were both smiling happily in the picture. He picked up the picture and looked at it deeply. He touched the picture with his fingers and a single tear rolled down his cheek. He wondered whether her smile was real, he wondered whether anything about her was real. He wondered whether her love to him was real.
