Chapter 39

The week passed by nice and quietly. Thursday afternoon came and there was a note placed on Maki's desk to meet in the school gymnasium after school. She sighed, she knew better. It was probably another attempt to get her to join a club.
She sighed, "I can't keep my people waiting now...can I?" she smirked to herself.

She met Jae Joong after school. Kissed him lightly on his lips when she walked up to him, "Don't wait for me. I have some business to attend to."
"Are you sure? I could wait."
She sighed, "I don't know how long it's going to take."
"How many people are going to be there?" he asked, already knowing what she was going to go do.
"Don't know...5...maybe 10. Depends."

He pinched the bridge of his nose, "Maybe I should go with you."
"Please...I can do it myself."
"It's not you I'm worried about....maybe I'll tell RH to keep an eye out on you."
She groaned, "YAH! Jae Joong-ssi!"
He held up his hand to stop her, his eyes still closed, his fingers still pinching the bridge of his nose. Finally he put his hand down and opened his eyes, "Fine but be nice."
She grinned, "I always am." She reached up and kissed his chin and walked away.
"She's going to hate me..but I don't care." Jae Joong muttered and pulled out his cell phone, calling Hye Su.

Maki made it to the gym. No one was there, she sighed. In the middle of the gym, a banner was placed that had Maki's name on it. She walked over to it to take a look at it. She narrowed her eyes, this was getting really weird. Suddenly she heard the doors...yes doors, to the gym open and girls began to pile in. Maki was still just as confused as ever. She noticed that some of the girls wore different uniforms. She scratched the back of her head. They piled into the gym...about 100 girls.

One girl stood out before them facing Maki.
"YAH! ARE YOU REALLY DATING JAE JOONG OPPA?!" She yelled at Maki in a high pitched voice.
Maki's mouth dropped open, this is what it was all about...if she would've known that she would've never came. "Why does it matter?"
"WHY WOULD HE NOT DATE ANY OF US...BUT PICK YOU?!" she yelled again.
Maki winced, the high pitch of her voice was killer on her ears, "I really don't think I have to answer to you. You see what you see."
"I dated Jae Joong oppa, why would he dump me for you?!" another girl stood out from the crowd, she wore a green school uniform. Maki shrugged, as if she cared. Grumblings went around from all the girls.

This was stupid, "Are we done here? I really don't think this is necessary." Maki pushed her way past the girls. Something smashed into the back of her head, she felt the gooey substance slide down the back of her hair...the best part? It was rotten. She turned around, "Who did it?!" she growled, another girl pushed past the crowd, she held a small basket in her hand filled with more eggs. She was tossing one of them around in her hand.
"Me...what's it to you."
Maki grinned, "Just making sure." The girl was pissed at Maki's 'I-don't-care-attitude'. She threw the egg in her hand at Maki, Maki caught it easily and instantly threw it back at the girl. It hit her right in her forehead, rocking her head back from the impact. She screamed in disgust and dropped the basket, the eggs breaking easily and the smell filled the room. Some of the girls screamed and scattered. Others stood at their place, their hands going up in a defensive stance. "Ok...you asked for it."

Maki's fists went up and she motioned for one of the girls across from her to come forward. She did but Maki turned left and punched the girl that was standing next to her. Then Maki did a roundhouse kick, kicking 5 girls in the faces. The other girls finally came too and they started to barge in on Maki. Maki fell to the ground and she could feel the punches and kicks raining down her body. But this was nothing. She manuevered her way and took out knee caps, shins, and feet along the way.

Suddenly there was a huge clanging sound. "ANNYEEOONNGG!!" someone screamed.
The girls stopped fighting and looked up. 6 girls stood at the gym entrance. All of them holding metal bars or bats. "Yah...there was a fight and no one invited us? Such horrible people...we just want to play too." Maki heard Hye Su's voice.

"That freakin' jerk." she muttered curses at Jae Joong.

"WHERE IS SHE?!" Hye Su yelled. She started to advance towards the group. Maki felt as people tripped over her body as they backed away. Finally Maki's body was in the clearing. She looked up and saw Hye Su grinning down at her, "Need some help?"
"Not really." Maki said. Hye Su rolled her eyes and held out her hand. Maki sighed and took it.
"Bleh...you smell." Hye Su said as the other girls surrounded them.
"Me?...Yeah, I know." Maki grinned.
"We couldn't let you have all the fun you know." Ae-cha said winking.
"Yeah we can hold up for ourselves now!" Sanny said and Yuri nodded in agreement.
"We still owe you one." Eun said.
"Ditto." Song agreed.
"Ok...but just don't get in my way." Maki grinned at them.
"As if." Hye Su said. The girls turned around and faced the others. Suddenly they broke into a run towards the 50 or so girls that were left. It was war.

After the fight the girls went to a public bath house. They helpd each other put heating pads on their aching bodies. "Man that was soo much fun!" Sanny said. She and Yuri high-fived each other. They were growing up too fast.
Maki rolled her eyes, "Yah. Don't get used to it."
"You can't protect them forever." Ae-Cha said.
"I know but I don't want them to be like us."
"That is true...they're cuter as they are yeah?" Hye Su asked.

Sanny and Yuri stuck their tongues out at their friends, but glad that their friends cared for them so much. Eun and Song came back with some eggs and the girls sat around laughing and giggling about random things. Suddenly Hye Su turned to Maki, "So what are you getting Jae Joong?"
"What am I getting Jae Joong what?" Maki asked confused.
"Don't tell me you haven't thought about it."
"Huh?"
"His birthday?! Hellooo."
Maki's face was contorted in confusion.

Hye Su sighed, "His birthday is this weekend, what are you getting Jae Joong...your boyfriend?"
It hit Maki then, "Son of a bitch! He just said it was a special day for him...nothing like a 'BIRTHDAY'. What the hell am I supposed to do?!"
The girls rolled their eyes at Maki, "You can be so clueless sometimes." Eun said.
Maki stuck her tongue out at her.
"Well girls, I hear a shopping trip." Song said the other girls squealed in delight.
"Oooh no. I AM NOT going shopping." Maki said her eyes widened in fear.
"Yah...you fight like a man but shopping scares you? Paaaboool." Ae-Cha said.
"Ok tomorrow after school girls shopping trip...RIGHT?!" Hye Su threw a threatening glance at Maki.
Maki sighed, "FIIINE." The girls hung out for a bit longer and then they left and went their seperate ways.

That night Jae Joong was over again. Her father had gone out with some friends for a few drinks. They were sitting about a mile apart on the couch watching tv. She was still giving him the silent treatment for telling RH about the after school thing. Suddenly Jae Joong groaned in pain and doubled over. Maki turned to look at him. He fell off the couch and landed on the ground with a thud, sending another groan floating to her ears.
She quickly went over to him, "YAH! GWEN CHAN NAE YO?! What's wrong?!" she asked worriedly.
She turned him over on his back, he smiled suddenly and grabbed her arm and pulled her down towards him.

They wrestled on the ground playfully. It was a shot to Jae Joong's groin that ended the tussle. She sat on the couch with his head in her lap. She was still giggling. "Yah...if you only knew what kind of pain that is for a man." Jae Joong said looking up at her.
"Serves you right...did you really have to tell them to watch over me?"
"Well I'm glad I did, did you really think you were going to take on 100 girls by yourself."
Her face puckered as she thought about it, "I would've managed."

He sat up quickly and brought her into him, pulling her into his lap, "I know you can handle your own...but sometimes just let me worry about you and pretend that you're a fragile girlfriend...sometimes."
She nestled into his chest, "AND! How come you didn't tell me it was your birthday?"
He shrugged, "I don't really like to celebrate it."
"Then why make me promise to be with you."
"AIGOOO! You're my girlfriend...can't I ask that of you."
She was silent, "Am I going to meet your parents?"
"Anniyo." he answered curtly.
"Why not?"
"They're not going to be there."
"Again, why not?"
"Why do you want to meet them so badly?"
"Well you've met my Appa...I think it would be a fair exchange. What too ashamed to introduce me?" she asked playfully.

"Look. Why can't you just see that I don't want to introduce them to you!?" he asked angrily.

She flinched...[Was he that ashamed of me?].

"Maybe I should go home."
She nodded they both got up and she walked him to the door, her eyes didn't meet his, "You don't have to wait for me tomorrow. I have some things to do after school."
He nodded, "Ok...I'll just see you Saturday then?"
She nodded, he moved in to kiss her but she stayed planted. He then turned abrutptly and walked away. She slammed the door behind him.

Tears slid down her face as she laid in bed that night...as much as she loved Appa, she really wished Omma could be here for her now...
