Chapter 5

Monday rolled around. Maki made it to school and went to homeroom. Same thing just a different day. She took her usual seat in the back, Sanny and Hyo were already there, they were also jumpy and paranoid. She wanted to say something to them, but wasn't sure what to say.

"Have you guys gotten any threats?" she asked them. They both shook their heads no, Maki sighed. "Well then don't worry about it. I told you...it's just stories to scare the new kids..."
They both nodded in unison but Maki could tell that they were both still pretty tense. She took her seat and turned next to her. Junsu was sitting straight in his chair, his normally goofy grin was gone from his face today. He turned to look at her, she smiled at him. He gave her a small smile, "Hey."
"You seem so...serious today."
"Yeah...is it a bad thing?"
"No just totally different...I feel like the end of the world is coming or something."
His face broke into his goofy grin, "I guess you could say that."
Before anything else could be said the professor walked in. Once class ended Junsu tapped her shoulder she turned around, "Be safe this week."
She gave him a confused look and nodded her head. He grinned and walked off. "Weird..." she said to herself.

She thought about what he said all the way to her next class, she was so lost in thought that she didn't even see the body that was sitting at her desk when she threw her bag into the chair. "YAH!" a deep husky voice yelled at her angrily. She snapped out of it and was staring at Jae joong...an angry Jae Joong.
"That's what you get for sitting in my chair!" she yelled at him, she doesn't know why he made her so angry...just by looking at him.
He stood up out of her chair. "WHY ARE YOU AVOIDING ME?!" he yelled. The other students started to stare at them.
"AVOID YOU?! I DON'T EVEN KNOW YOU!" They were both glaring at each other. She had to look up at him though, he was too tall. Anger emitted from both of them. He smacked his lips and pushed by her and stalked out of the classroom. "What a freakin' weirdo!" Maki yelled to herself. She turned to the rest of the class, "MOH!?" she screamed at them. "ARGH!" she yelled and grabbed her bag and walked out of the classroom.

As she walked the school grounds, she ended up walking into a deserted part of the school. She heard a rustling behind her, she turned around quickly. A body fell from out of the shadows. She quickly ran over to the person. "Hey! Are you ok?!" she asked as she turned the girl over.
The girl smiled, "You know wrong place at the wrong time...thats what I get."
"Do you need me to take you to the infirmary?" Maki asked her. The girl shook her head no quickly.
"Just let me lay here for 5 minutes...then I'll leave. You better get out of here, don't know if those girls will be coming back."
"I'm not going to leave you here like this."
"Just go! Please! I beg you!!" Maki looked down at the girl who was desperately trying to get her to leave. Maki nodded and got up and left the girl on the ground.
"This isn't right..." she said but it was too late now, she left the girl where she laid. She didn't know what else to do, she didn't want to get involved.

The rest of the day was incident free. Maki was glad to see Sanny and Hyo at lunch, unbruised, still scared, but still in one piece.

By Thursday, you could pick out who the new kids were. Kids walked the halls in groups, with fresh bruises and new found 'friends'. Even the girl from the day before, although freshly bandaged, was walking around with a group. Maki wondered if that was the group that gave her one hell of a beating. No one had asked Maki to join their group...oddly. But she was happy with that, same thing with Hyo and Sanny...they were scotch free. However, Maki was starting to sense that something wasn't right with the kids of this school. "Maybe the damn rumors are true..."

By the end of the day she was starting to worry about Sanny and Hyo, she quickly caught up with them before they left. "Guys!" she called after them. The two turned around.
"What's wrong?" Hyo asked.
Maki looked them both in the eyes, "Will you guys promise me to be careful for the next couple of days?"
"Why?" Sanny asked, eyes wide with horror.
Maki sighed, "Don't ask...just do please?" They both nodded slowly. "Ok well I'll see you guys tomorrow." She said to them and quickly walked away. She didn't want to give them more time to question her worried expression.

Before she walked out of the gate a couple of chubby girls stopped her. She looked at them. "Yeh?" she asked when they didn't say anything.
"Would you like to join our cooking club?" A sheepish one with pigtails asked her quickly.
"Huh? Cooking club? I can't cook...that would be a pointless club for me to join...I'd probably burn down the school. Mianhae." She made a move to walk by them.
"Please! We could really use some more people!" Another said to her grabbing onto her arm.
Maki sighed and turned around, "You guys seem like a very nice group...but I'm not joining any groups. I'm not even going to be here long...so it would be pointless for me to join, you'd only need to find someone else to replace me...I'm sorry." The girl dropped her arm, the group looked dejected. "But hey good luck with finding members! Bye!" Maki said and quickly walked off before they or anyone else could stop her.

That night as her dad was preparing dinner, Maki sat around wondering if the rumors were true. Why wouldn't the school officials stop it? Don't they know? Do they even care? She scratched her head with her pencil. This was too much for her to worry about, she had a math exam she needed to study for. "Maakii!" her dad called in a sing song like voice to her.
"Yeehh Appa?"
"Can you go to the store and pick up some eggs for me? It seems as though I forgot that when I went out earlier."
"Ok!" she called out and was glad to be able to go for a walk. She grabbed her hoodie and threw a baseball cap over her hair and walked outside. The night was clear and the air was fresh. It was nice. She took a deep breath and headed off to the store.

As she was coming back she decided to take the back way, it was longer but the night was too pretty to ditch out on. As she rounded the corner she saw a group of girls standing around. She quickly ducked back into the shadows. She peeked around the corner and noticed that they had surrounded another girl.
"YAH! Do you think you're going to say no to us?!" A tall girl asked menacingly and pushed the other girl. She fell backwards and Maki saw the long curls bouncing.
"Fuck me..." Maki muttered, she recognized Sanny anywhere from her hair. She heard the girl sniffle.
"So you are going to join us?!" the tall girl yelled. She watched as Sanny shook her head no. Maki was grateful, but then also worried for Sanny's life. Something silver glinted under the streetlamp. Maki quickly noticed the long silver bar that one of the girl's had raised above her head to strike Sanny with. Maki pulled her cap low over her eyes and stealthily made her way over. She grabbed the bar and kicked the girl in the back of the knees. She fell to the ground. The other girls quickly turned to face Maki.

"WHAT THE HELL?! YOU WANT YOUR ASS KICKED?!" The tall girl yelled. Maki slowly circled so that she was in between the girls and Sanny. She held the bar out from her like a sword. Maki just grinned at them from under her cap. Her hand slowly reached out to Sanny, she took it and Maki helped her up. "She's ours! We called dibs on her first!"

From the corner of Maki's eye she could see one of the girls moving in on her. She turned quickly and threw the bar at the girl, it hit her square in the face. The other girls rushed in and Maki raised her arms up as they tried to land blows to her. Maki grabbed an arm and yanked someone close to her and brought her fist down into their face, she heard the crunch of the nose and someone scream in bloody murder. Maki then side swept two girls off their feet and then tackled another one to the ground. She then grabbed Sanny's hand and started running. She could hear the girls screaming to go after them. Sanny's legs were like rubber, she kept falling every couple of feet.

"Get on my back Sanny." Maki said.
"How do you know who I am?!" She said scared. Maki pulled off her cap and grinned. Sanny brokedown in tears and threw her arms around Maki's neck. Thank goodness this girl weighed less then a feather. Maki started to run again.
"Tell me how to get to your house...the back way. Ok? Stop crying. I won't let them hurt you." Maki said. Sanny nodded into her shoulder and started to mutter how to get to her house. They finally reached it and she let her down, she was panting for air.
"Want to come in?"
Maki shook her head no, "I gotta get these to my dad." She held up her hand...through the clear bag you could see broken eggs. "DAMNIT!" She looked back the way she came.
Sanny giggled while wiping her face, "Wait here." She ran inside, a couple minutes later she came back out with a bag filled with eggs. "A thank you...for saving me."
"Anni I can't!"
"Please take it! It's the least I can do, besides my grandparents sent these to us and what are you going to say to your dad when you come home empty handed?"
Maki sighed, Sanny was right. She couldn't tell her dad that she had fought. He would kill her..."Ok...I'll take 5 only though. I was only suppose to get five anyways. Thanks Sanny AND PLEASE BE CAREFUL! See you at school tomorrow!" She grinned and waved goodbye to Sanny and left.
