Chapter 4

Junsu's face burned with tears. He held a sleeping Ri In in his arms. Now that she had taken off her jacket and was close to him, he could see the bruises and the blood. He lowered his face to kiss her bruises tenderly. Ri In didn't deserve this. She was in the last person in the world who deserved something so cruel. He cried bitterly. Why would anyone ever do this to her?

He then wiped away the tears from his eyes with the back of his sleeve. He had to be strong for her. He had never seen her in such a weak and vulnerable state. It had broken his heart to hear her sobs, and without even needing her to explain what had happened to him, Junsu had already known. He stroked her hair lightly, deciding that he would deal with Hankyung later. Revenge was a dish best served cold, and Ri In needed him right now.

She whimpered. "Hankyung..."

Junsu held her tighter in his arms. Ri In stirred and awoke.

"Junsu?" she said uncertainly. She reached up to touch his face.

"It's me. Don't worry. You're safe now," he whispered reassuringly. I won't let anything bad happen to you from now on. I promise."

He kissed her forehead. She sniffed.

"I'm sorry that I came so late."

"I know."

"I didn't want to..."

"I know."

"I tried to stop it. I tried...to stop him." The tears started to flow down her face.

"I know. It's not your fault."

"I shouldn't have gone." Her voice and eyes were equally full of regret.

"I shouldn't have let you go in the first place. I should have gone with you." Ri In didn't blame him, but Junsu knew that it was truly his fault. "I shouldn't have got mad at you like that."

"I'm sorry."

"You have nothing to be sorry about." He laughed painfully.

"I understand if you don't want to be with me anymore." She glanced at the bruises on her arm with shame. She felt so dirty...so broken and fragile. She didn't want to live anymore. All Junsu had to do was set her free, and then, free of any reason to live, she would be able to let go of this life of hers.

"Don't be silly. Oppa will always want to be with you, no matter what happens. We're going to get through this together. I'm not going to leave your side. I'm here for you." Junsu looked into Ri In's eyes and reading her mind, he spoke firmly. "I love you, and nothing will change that. I will always love you, and I'm never going to let go of you."
