Taking a deep breathe, Ariel walked closer and closer to Joe. As she was getting nearer to him she felt her face turned hot and suddenly she couldn’t breathe. She opened her mouth to say hi, but the words just wouldn’t come out. She noticed a few students pointing at her and laughing. With her mouth moving without any words, it looks like Ariel was imitating a fish. With a huge groans Ariel cursed herself for being pathetic.
Maybe…maybe she wasn’t ready to say Hi to him yet. She quickly turned the opposite direction and started running. She saw her two best friends hiding behind a huge tree and ran over to join them.
“You owed me $10.” Jo Jung Rin said and held her hands out for the money. Ariel groaned. She was losing all her money to Jung Rin over that stupid bet!
“Um…let’s see, you owe me a bowl of black bean noodle!” Ella added.
“Come on; let’s forget about the bet huh? I’m broke because of you two!” Ariel whined.
“It’s your turn to say hi to him tomorrow Ella, are you ready?” Jung Rin asked. Ella nodded and grins. She felt a little sorry for Ariel, everybody knows about her crush on Joe Cheng since grade school. Unfortunately, every time Ariel goes near him she becomes tongue tied.
Jung Rin came up with a brilliant idea…or maybe not such a brilliant idea in Ariel’s case. It was a bet to say Hi to Joe every morning; the loser has to pay a dollar each if they chicken out. Unfortunately for Ariel, she chickened out every morning, while her scheming friends happily accept her money.
Not willing to lose anymore money, Ariel throws both her hands up in the air and declared loudly,
“Watch! I will definitely say hi to him…and you two will have to treat me to a big bowl of ice cream!”
Jung rin and Ella rolled their eyes at Ariel and said,
“We’ll treat you to two bowls of ice cream.”
