Chapter 19

“I think Taeyoung noona is warming up to Jiyong hyung,” Seungri’s sweet voice could be heard from outside of Seunghyun’s room. “Yeah, I think she likes him a lot now. You should’ve seen the anger in her eyes when Daesung retaliated! And you should’ve seen the way Jiyong ran after her! It was so great, Hyung. I’d love to have Jiyong-hyung as a cousin-in-law, wouldn’t you, Hyung? He’s too cool!”

“Seungri, lower your voice,” Seunghyun’s laughing voice responded, “she might be around the corner and she’ll probably hear every word you say and kill you.”

“Oh, no worries!” Seungri said happily. “I’ll just call Jiyong hyung to save me. She won’t dare lay a finger on me if he’s around!”

“That little punk…” I muttered under my breath. I glanced up at Jiyong, his shoulders seemed to be shaking in a seizure. “Yah, what are you laughing at?!”

“Seungri’s cute,” he said after he contained himself, grinning down at me and squeezing my hand. “Real cute.”

“Yeah,” I snorted, “as cute as a dog with rabies. Let’s go inside before he ruins my rep even more.” I knocked on the door lightly and opened it slowly; glad to see the room lit up and decorated with Seunghyun’s class’s presents. “Hi Oppa.”

“Hi Taeyoung, hi…Jiyong?” Immediately his eyes landed upon the intertwinement of our hands. As fast as I could, I hid our hands and Jiyong behind my back, a sheepish smile on my face.

“You see, Hyung? I told you that Noona liked him! I told you, didn’t I?” Seungri laughed out loud merrily. “Man, I can’t believe Taeyoung has a boyfriend.”

“I can’t believe Jiyong is still alive,” Seunghyun teased. “It’s hard to get to her heart, I know.” Jiyong grinned and looked down at my fuming face, shrugging.

“Nah,” he smiled, pulling me in closer. “It wasn’t that bad.”

“Details, Noona!”

“Oh please, Seungri. Move your butt over,” I rolled my eyes; leading Jiyong towards the couch that Seungri was hopping up and down on. “There’s nothing to see here.”

“So how did it happen? Did she have to pay you?” Seungri asked Jiyong. “How much did she pay you?”

“Seungri,” I snapped, “shut it!”

“What, I was just asking,” he grinned at me. I rolled my eyes and turned my attention to Seunghyun.

“How are you feeling?” I asked quietly as he smiled at me. He did look better. The color was back in his face and the warmth was back in his eyes. But he didn’t seem the same person.

“I’m fine,” he replied, “I just can’t wait to go home.”

“When did the doctors say you can go home?” A shrug was his response.

“I’m not sure. Soon, I hope. I feel fine, I really do,” he insisted. I could see the want to get out of this room embedded in his dark eyes.

“Don’t worry, Oppa,” I smiled at him, patting his hand. “It’ll all be fine. No worries.”

“Seungri, turn the TV down, Jiyong and I are trying to study,” I said to my cousin as the three of us sat around the TV that weekend. It was a slow week; and Jiyong was now a part of my schedule. He was always there, like he promised, twenty four hours a day, seven days a week.

Not that I was complaining, of course.

I yawned and placed my textbook down, stretching my legs over his lap. I looked at him from my angle, watching him study.

“What are you looking at,” he asked in a flat voice as he pushed his glasses up his nose, flipping the page.

“You, obviously,” I smirked, running a hand through my hair. “Ri, what time is it?”

“Time for you to get a watch!” my younger cousin snickered.

“Grow up,” I rolled my eyes, “what time is it? I should bring Seunghyun some lunch.”

“I think it’s…” Suddenly, a phone call interrupted Seungri mid-sentence. Lazily, I yawned and sat up, reaching over Jiyong for the phone.

“Hello?” I said half heartedly as I rested my head on his lap.

“Is this…Choi Taeyoung?” A voice so menacing replied, sending shivers down my spine.

“Yes…” I sat up, a look on my face so strange that it caused both Jiyong and Seungri to glance up at me. “Who…who is this?”

“I’m so sorry your brother didn’t die,” the voice cackled sarcastically. It was a deep voice, slightly muffled and slightly cracked. “But don’t you wonder who tried to kill your brother?”

“Who are you?” I repeated, my voice constricted. “What do you want?”

“I don’t want anything, my dear,” the voice continued, “nothing but you three dead.”

“Three?” I asked.

“Yes, I want you, Choi Seunghyun and Lee Seungri…dead.”

“Who is this?” I demanded. “Is this some kind of practical joke?”

“This isn’t a joke, dear,” the voice cackled again, “but remember: I’ll be watching you. You’re next” And then the phone went dead.

“Taeyoung?” Jiyong touched my hand, the one that was gripping the telephone. “Taeyoung, what’s wrong?”

“Noona?” Seungri waved a hand in front of my face. I didn’t blink. “Noona, are you okay? Noona!”

“Seungri…Seungri…” I looked at my cousin, grabbing his hand. “Listen to me. From now on, I do not want you going out by yourself. You must be accompanied by either me or Jiyong. Do not go off by yourself, do you hear me?”

“Noona, what’s wrong?” Seungri’s face showed fear. “You’re scaring me.”

“Just listen to me!” I exclaimed at him, grabbing his shoulders. “Do not go anywhere by yourself. Always, always have me present, please!”

“Taeyoung….what’s wrong?” Jiyong bit his lip, his hand touching my cold skin. I shook my head and stood up, like a zombie, and walked into the kitchen. Jiyong stood and followed me, confused while Seungri blinked at the two of us, then returned to his cartoons.

“Jiyong,” I whispered to him as I entered the kitchen. “Please… I need you to stay away from me, okay?”

“What?” he took both of my hands in his. “What’s going on?” I only shook my head, taking my hands out of his.

“It’s for your safety,” I whispered. “Just stay away from us. You’ll be much safer.”

“What the hell, Taeyoung? What’s going on? Tell me, right now!” he demanded. I bit my lip to bite back the tears, then exhaled.

“Someone…someone just called and said…they said…” a tear escaped and my voice lowered. “That they wanted us dead, Jiyong.”

“Why would they want to kill us?”

“Not us…they want to kill me.”
