“My mom is sick and I haven’t seen her in a long time. I’ll only be gone for two weeks.” said Lilly.
“Oh..okay. Be safe,” ah Lik kissed her on the forehead.
“You too.” She waved goodbye and blew him a kiss. Ah Lik kept his eye on her until she disappeared from the terminal.
He sighed. This is going to be a long two weeks, he thought.

“I'm off work tomorrow, what should we do,” asked Alan sitting on the couch with Ah Sze resting her head in his lap.
“Man Gwan doesn’t have work either. We should do a group activity.”
“Then we should invite Ah Lik too since his girlfriend’s gone she wouldn’t have to come along.”
“But what would we do?”
“Hmmm…” Alan scratched his head in thought. “Let’s go hiking.”
“Hiking?”
“Yeah, we haven’t done that. We can also camp out and have a barbecue.”
“Now that I think about it, it sounds like it would be a lot of fun.”
“Hiking it is.”
“Wait, we have to ask if Ah Lik and Man Gwan want to go.”
“Go where,” asked Man Gwan when she entered the living room.
“We were thinking that the four of us go hiking tomorrow,” Ah Sze said as she sat up.
“The four of us? I only count 1, 2, and 3. Who’s the fourth?”
“Ah Lik,” said Alan.
“Oh.”
“We haven’t told him yet, but I think he would come,” said Ah Sze.
“As a matter of fact, I’ll tell him now.” Alan grabbed the phone and called Ah Lik.
“Hey it’s me, Alan. Listen, are you free tomorrow? Ah Sze and I are planning to go hiking and we want you to come. You’re up for it? Great, I’ll come buy to pick you up tomorrow. Get your gear ready. We’re going to be camping out and having a barbecue.” Alan hung up the phone. “He’s coming.”
“Wonderful, it’s settled then. I’m going to go pack some stuff,” Ah Sze got up and went into her room.
“Don’t worry if you don’t have everything, we’ll be happy to lend you some things,” said Alan. “Just gather all your personal belongings.”
“Thanks.” Camping…Man Gwan wasn’t too sure about it, but what the heck, she thought. It could be fun.
Early the next day they gathered all their belongings and placed it in Alan’s trunk. Alan drove over to Ah Lik’s house and picked him up. He got into the back seat. “Man Gwan? They didn’t tell me you were coming.”
“Well, surprise!”
“I’m glad you came. Now I won’t be so lonely. If it was just me, Alan and Ah Sze, you know what would happen?”
“What?”
“They’ll ditch me and have their little lovey dovey moments.”
Man Gwan laughed. “I’ll say, I mean I live with them. I completely understand.”
“What are you two giggling about back there,” asked Ah Sze.
“Oh nothing. Just having a casual conversation,” said Ah Lik.
“Don’t mind them, they’re just jealous,” said Alan.
“So, ever been camping,” Ah Lik asked Man Gwan.
“Nope, first time.”
“It’s my second.”
“Great that means if I get lost you can help me.”
“Do you mind if I turn on the radio,” asked Alan.
“No go ahead.” Alan turned on the radio dial and it played “My Valentine,” by Martina McBride.
{If there were no words
No way to speak
I would still hear you
If there were no tears
No way to feel inside
I'd still feel for you
And even if the sun refuse to shine
Even if romance ran out of rhyme
You would still have my heart
Until the end of time
You're all I need
My love, my valentine}
“This is one of my favorite songs,” said Man Gwan. “The lyrics are so beautiful.”
“Really?” He closed his eyes and listened to the song.
{All of my life
I have been waiting for
All you give to me
You've opened my eyes
And showed me how to love unselfishly
I've dreamed of this a thousand times before
In my dreams I couldn’t love you more
I will give you my heart
Until the end of time
You're all I need
My love, my valentine}
“You’re right, the lyrics are very touching.”
“I hope that one day I could find someone I could love like that.” she had a dreamy look on her face thinking of the possibilities. She blushed when she noticed Ah Lik was looking at her. “Sorry, I guess I drifted off to my own little fantasy world, but like I said, it’s just a fantasy, what are the chances of it becoming real?
“Don’t lose your hopes and dreams. You’re a sweet girl. I know that one day, you’ll find your valentine,” Ah Lik patted her hand. The touch of his hands made her tingle.
{And even if the sun refuse to shine
Even if romance ran out of rhyme
You would still have my heart
Until the end of time
Cuz all I need
Is you, my valentine
You're all I need
My love, my valentine}
