Chapter 5

Three's A Crowd

As soon as Alan and Ah Sze arrived in Hong Kong, they immediately rushed to the hospital. When they arrived at the hospital, they saw Lang Por in tears and David comforting her. He was on the verge of tears also. This could not be good, Ah Sze thought. “What happened,” asked Ah Sze. “Is the baby…” David nodded. Ah Sze felt her heart sink. Alan put his arms around her.

“It’s okay. Everything will be fine.” Alan tried comforting her.

“Alan…Ah Sze? You two actually came back,” said Chris as she walked down the hall with Martin.

“She was worried about CoCo,” replied Alan.

“I told you, there was nothing to worry about.”

“Nothing to worry about? The baby is gone and you tell me there’s nothing to worry about?”

“The baby is not gone. Who told you that?”

“Grandma and Dad were crying I asked him and he nodded.”

Lang Por and David started to laugh. “Silly girl, we’re crying because we’re so happy and when you asked is the baby…I thought you meant is the baby born.”

Ah Sze was relieved. She laughed along with them. “Well then, do I have a niece or nephew?”

“A nephew,” said Martin.

“How’s CoCo? Can we go see her?”

“The doctor is checking up on her right now. After she’s done, we could go see her.”

“You want to see our little nephew?

“Of course,” Ah Sze said excited.

“Follow me,” said Chris as she led Alan and Ah Sze to the nursery.

They looked through a glass into a room filled with babies. “See the one over there? That’s Gong Jai.”

“He’s already been named?”

“Yeah, Jason named him.”

“He’s so adorable…looks just like his mother and father.”

The doctor finished checking up on CoCo and the family went inside to see her.

“How are you feeling CoCo,” asked Ah Sze.

“Yee Ka Jei (2nd sister) you came back?”

“She wanted to be there for you,” said Alan.

Ah Sze gave CoCo a nice sisterly hug. “I feel so much better now that the baby is out of me. Did you see Gong Jai?”

“Yes, I did. He looks so much like you. I’m so happy for you and Jason. I can’t believe I’m an Aunt now.”

“I can’t believe I’m a mom now.” They both laughed. “Sorry for cutting your honeymoon short. You know you didn’t have to come back. I’m taken care of.”

“You’re my sister. I had to be here to support you. Besides, it’s not everyday that I get to see my little sister become a mom.” She smiled.

“Thanks.”

“You don’t have to thank me. That’s what sisters are for.”

“Ah Sze and Ah Nam(Chris), you guys should be ashamed that your youngest sister beat you to it. You two better hurry it up so that Gong Jai would have cousins to play with,” joked David.

“Yes, I want more great grandchildren. The more the better,” said Lang Por. Alan and Ah Sze exchanged glances and Chris and Martin did the same.

“Dai ka jei (big sister) and Yee ka jei (second sister) I want to be an aunt too.”

-------------------
Alan and Ah Sze returned to their apartment. Alan found the door to be unlocked. “Hey did you forget to lock the door when we left?”

“No, I know I locked it.”

“That’s odd.”

“Maybe your parents came over.”

“Maybe…” They entered the apartment and saw that the TV was on. “Who turned on the tv and didn’t shut it off?”

“Your parents?”

“They really need to get their act together.” Alan put the luggage to the side and turned off the TV. “I’m hungry, do we have any food at home?”

“Only eggs, I haven’t been grocery shopping remember?”

“Then let’s go out and eat.”

“Okay, just let me put this in the room first.” She walked through the hallway and saw the door to their bedroom opened. She remembered it was shut before they left. She went in and turned on the light and to her surprise there was a woman on their bed. “Honey! There’s someone on our bed.”

“What?” Alan darted to their bedroom. “What in the world?” He went to wake her up. “Hey…hey, excuse me…” He nudged her. She woke up suddenly and screamed.

They backed away, “Shhssh,” said Alan, she looked very familiar. “Man Gwan? Is that you?”

“Cousin Alan? I thought you were on your honeymoon?”

“We were, but we came home early. What are you doing here?”

“I’m staying in Hong Kong for a while and Aunt Betty said that I could stay with you guys.” Alan and Ah Sze looked at each other. “Is that a problem?”

“No, of course not. You’re Alan’s cousin so that makes you family,” said Ah Sze. Alan gave his wife a funny look.

“Great! Sorry about sleeping on your bed. I guess I was tired from the plane ride. I love your place by the way. Oh and you should go grocery shopping. If you don’t then having a fridge is just a waste of space. You must be Alan’s wife.” Ah Sze nodded. “I’m Chung Man Gwan, Alan’s younger cousin.”

“I’m Go Yat Sze.”

“I’m starving…got anything to eat,” asked Man Gwan.

“We were just going to dinner. You can join us if you like,” replied Ah Sze.

“Cool! Let me wash up first,” Man Gwan got out of bed and went into the bathroom.

With Man Gwan gone Alan said, “What were you thinking? Let her stay with us? She’s going to be nothing, but trouble.”

“Oh come on, she’s your cousin. Shouldn’t you be nice to her?”

“You don’t understand. You don’t know her well enough yet.”

“Well, too late we already said yes, we can’t just push her away now.”

“Okay…I hope you won’t regret it.”
