I always do this… Charmaine thought as she stared at Chilam, asleep beside her. No one’s interested in me…not like that. He just sees me as the… “quiet” one. She was abruptly shaken out of her reverie by the immediate stop of the charter bus because it jerked her forward.
Before she could wake Chilam, Charmaine felt a tap on her shoulder. It was Kevin. He had rushed towards her seat.
“Hey, you wanna hang out at Oxnard Beach with me?” Kevin leaned over the head rest towards her.
Seeing Charmaine’s hesitation, Kevin continued.
“I mean, you didn’t sit by me for the trip and if you don’t wanna just chill with me here, I’m gonna take it as though you’ve got something against me…” Kevin played the guilt card.
“But…what about Chilam?” Charmaine looked over towards the sleeping figure.
“He’ll be fine…” Kevin tried to reassure her. Looking at Charmaine for a second, Kevin suddenly grabbed her hand and led her off the bus.
“We’re wasting time and its pretty awesome here…” He tried to justify once they were off the bus.

Although the Blue Devils Charter Buses arrived at Oxnard around 3 p.m., Chilam was sound in slumber until 5:30 p.m., when he was wakened by Joe, the drumline instructor for dinner.
Ahh, fool! Chilam thought as he walked off the bus and pass the colorguarad members packing up the tables filled with leftover barbequed ribs, tri-tip, and chicken. You tried to save her from him but you fell asleep! and now he’s probably off trying to kiss her or something…
“Hey, Chilam! Food?” Melody, the colorguard instructor offered, as she handed him a plate of spareribs, tri-tip, coleslaw, and cake.
“No, thanks. Hey, why didn’t anyone wake me earlier?” Ries handed the plate back to her.
“Well, Kevin told me that you said you didn’t want anyone to wake you. That you…um…what did he say exactly… ‘couldn’t sleep well last night and need to rest for tonight’,” Melody explained.
Chilam was silent for a second. Melody, who was a very motherly figure even though she was rather young, shoved the plate of food in his face again.
“Is that what he said ? I…wh--…do you know where he is right now?” Chilam finally decided to say as he shook his hands to signal “no” to the plate food again.
“Sorry, I have no idea… I don’t think he’s even stopped by for a plate of food yet… How ‘bout I save you a plate, hmm?” Melody took another plate to cover.
“Thanks!” Chilam yelled back as he walked towards the park.
