Chapter 8

Tell me of forgotten times!

After searching the park, Chilam scanned the beach, for Charmaine’s familiar figure, hoping that he wouldn’t see Kevin with her. It was a large beach though, and although he searched from 5:30 to 6:30, he still couldn’t find either one of them.

He headed towards the restroom to wash his face. On leaving the restroom, he looked up to see a couple, dressed in the Blue Devils travel uniforms, holding hands, walking from the far end of the beach towards the bus. He straightened up and prepared himself to warn them about their PDA.

As he headed towards them, however, he noticed that the short, ruffled hair style seemed familiar… It was Charmaine…and the guy was Kevin. Sighing softly, he decided to turn around and head towards colorguard bus. Once there, he scanned the girls for Melody. He suddenly felt very hungry.

Quickly gobbling down the plate of food, Chilam felt rather uncertain of what to do. He sat on the bus alone, thinking over what had happened, his failed attempt to protect Charmaine indirectly, and what he could do. Continuing to quickly scoop the tri-tip onto the rolls and stuffing them into his mouth, he almost choked. But he continued to eat rapidly.

When Kevin walked onto the bus, he was holding firmly onto Charmaine’s hand. He glanced over at the hungry Chilam with a slight smirk of victory.

Charmaine stopped on seeing Chilam scarfing down the food. She motioned for Kevin to go ahead and sit down.

“Hey, sorry for abandoning you earlier, but you looked so peaceful that I didn’t wanna wake you,” Charmaine tried to apologize.

Chilam couldn’t respond because he still had massive amounts of food in his mouth. He tried to swallow but only managed to choke again.

“Don’t eat too quickly…it’s not good for your stomach,” Charmaine added as she walked towards the open seat next to Kevin.

“Charmaine, I—I need to tell you something!” Chilam managed to yell out, once he finally swallowed.

But Kevin had already grabbed her hand and forced her to sit-down next to him. Charmaine looked uncomfortable, but Kevin didn't heed any attention. Not wanting her to talk to Chilam, he pointed out to the beach and told her an inane fact about the distance of the earth to the sun.

When Kevin was looking away, Charmaine looked towards Chilam to mouth, “Sorry! Talk to you later!”

Chilam looked at her for a second and resumed eating.
