“Nick, I’ll see you all at rehearsal.” Myolie waved good-bye to them and made her way to the nearest taxi.

She placed the key into the lock and it opened with a small click. She pushed the door open and stepped inside. Nothing in the house had changed except now it was lifeless. All the furniture had been covered with white sheets.

The house, her house, no, their house, it had be inhabited for close to five years now. She couldn’t bring herself to sell it nor would she ever liver there again. All the memories she had there; all the moments they’d spent together. It was exactly these same memories that kept her from selling it. She knew Raymond wouldn’t have wanted her to.

Myolie carried the two bouquets of flowers and the small box in her hands as she made her way down the steps.

Stopping at the first grave I set down the bouquet of white carnations. “Mah Mah, I’ve missed you.” She regrets not being here to see her before she passed away.

Walking over to the next grave she set down the other bouquet of white lilies. Crouching down to eye level with the picture, she gently ran my finger over it, “Long time no see, right?” Myolie asked with a smile, yet my eyes glistened with tears. “I’ve missed you.” she whispered. “I brought these for you,” Setting down the box she carefully opened it to reveal the content of egg custards, “I picked these up on my way here. I know they were your favorite.”

“I know you’ve been wondering where I’ve been all these years. I wasn’t purposely trying to stay away from you.” But I knew I wasn’t telling the truth. I had been avoiding returning to Hong Kong. “I’ve been working for Nick for these past few years. We’re having a show tomorrow night here. I wish you could be here right now.”

Myolie rang the doorbell and was greeted by her best friend, “Myolie.” She cried. Myolie could only give her a partial hug because of her bulging belly.

“How have you been Leila, how’s Ray?” Myolie asked.

With the mention of him name Wing Nim appeared, “Since when was I no longer ChoCho?”

“Since you became the father of two and this it the third one?” Myolie replied. “You two have been hard at work, huh?” She teased.

“Myo!” Leila blushed. The moved to the living room and all settled on the couch, “So, how have you been? It’s been five years since you left after Fung…”

“I’m sorry I didn’t keep in touch all these years. After Fung died, I left to Rome and of course, Nick got word so he came and asked me to go work for him in France. I saw it as a good learning opportunity so I agreed. Nick got invited to have a fashion show her in Hong Kong so hence the reason of my return.”

“Will you be staying?” Leila asked.

“I don’t know yet. I’ve adapted to life in France, plus there’s nothing much for me here.” Myolie answered.

“Have you gone to visit?...”

“I went earlier before I came here, thanks for keeping the weeds and grass from growing.”

“It hasn’t been me. Even if I wanted to, Wing Nim wouldn’t let me go. Kevin’s the one to thank.”

“Kevin? How is he doing?”

“He felt extremely guilty after the incident. To this day, I don’t think he’s gotten over it yet.”

“I know he turned himself in at the time.”

“After going on trial, the jury decided it was accident, but he was guilty of kidnap so the judge sentenced him to two years in prison. When he got out of jail he didn’t know what to and he definitely didn’t want to go back to L.C.. But at the time I was pregnant, so he had no choice. He didn’t agree at first because he felt that he didn’t deserve to return. Finally I slapped some sense into him and made him realize that L.C. was Raymond’s dream, and that he would be doing Raymond a great disservice by not returning.” Leila explained.

“So Kevin’s still taking care of L.C.’s business?”

“Well, actually, Charles just graduated last year and he’s shown a great amount of interest in business, so Kevin’s teaching him everything. He’s told me that he’s planning to give Charles Raymond’s share of the company and his own as well.”

“That’s good to hear. I’m really sorry Leila.” Myolie apologized. “I’m sorry for leaving so suddenly and dumping all the business in your hands. I bet L.C. was already a big hassle and with Raymond’s company on top of that and then I had to add ‘Sum Yee’ to your workload.”

“Don’t say that Myolie, I understand. I just hope you won’t mind that I just ended up collaborating all three companies together. After all they were all yours and Fung’s creation.”

“Why would I mind, I am so grateful for all your help.” Myolie replied as he held Leila’s hand. “Hey, I can’t stay too long I have to get back to rehearsal before Nick starts scolding me. Maybe we can go out for dinner sometime before I leave.”

Leila and Wing Nim walked Myolie to the door. The two girls hugged for a long time, “Myo, it’s good to have you back. I’ve missed you.”

Myolie held her clipboard and pen in hand making notes from the rehearsal rundown.

“Myolie you have a package.” One of the on-site staff workers informed and handed her the brown package.

Myolie opened the rectangular box and found inside, surrounded by ice packs, a small cup of mint chocolate chip ice cream. “Bosco?” Was the first thought that came to her mind.

Lifting up the cup she found a small envelope with a note inside which read, ‘I hope this cup of ice cream is enough to express how I feel.’

“Myolie, what did you think of the practice run? Do you want to make any changes?” Nick asked. Hearing no response, Nick waved a hand in front of her, “Myolie?”

“Hmmm, I’m sorry, what did you say again Nick. I was thinking about something else.”

“Are you okay?” Nick questioned.

“I have to go out for a little bit; I’ll be back before the show tonight.”

She rushed outside to find Bosco standing there, hands in his pocket, leaning against the railing. He noticed her appearance and walked over to her.

“How have you been?” Myolie asked awkwardly.

“I’ve been about the same, a bit lonely I have to admit.”

“I’m so sorry Bosco, if that day Raymond hadn’t been shot I’d probably never have realized that he was the one I loved. Then again, if none of that had happen, perhaps you and I would still be together now. After Raymond passed away, I was too hurt; I didn’t know how to face you or anyone at the time, that’s why I left to Rome.”

Bosco held Myolie’s and looked at her in the eyes, “I know you were once hurt by love, but I hope you’ll give me the chance to help you remember how to love and how to be loved.”

“I….I just don’t know Bosco.” I paused, “Why don’t we let fate decide. There’s only a few hours before the show tonight, if you can find 1,000,000 red roses by the end of the show then yes, I’ll give you a chance. I have to go now.” Myolie turned and went back to watch the rehearsal wondering if Bosco would be able to find all the roses.

Bosco looked at his watch, it was already 8 o’clock. The show would start in two hours and end around midnight. One million roses, it sounded like an impossible task, but Bosco was determined to accomplish it for the chance to be with Myolie.

The show was coming to an end, all the models we walking out. Nick took center stage, “I want to thank all the models, and all the designers at my company. Special thanks goes to Miss Myolie Wu,” a spotlight fell upon Myolie who was sitting in front of the stage. “she was the main coordinator of this fashion show and she provided so many of tonight’s designs. Come up her Myolie.” She got out of her walked onto the stage. Everyone began clapping. Nick and Myolie held hands and bowed.

‘He’s not going to be able to make it’ was Myolie’s only thought. ‘Maybe we’re just not destined to be together.’

The show wrapped up and everyone left. “Bye Myolie” all the models and workers waved.

“Bye” she waved back. “Hey Nick, I don’t think I’m going to go to the celebration party, I’m kind of tired. I think I’m just going to go back to the hotel.”

“You sure?” Nick asked, Myolie nodded, “Okay, well be careful. If you need anything, give us a call.”

“You guys have fun.” Myolie waved. She packed up her bag and slung her purse over her shoulder. As soon as she exited the building she saw a sea or red roses appeared in front of her eyes.

Bosco walked up and presented Myolie with a single red rose. “There are 999,999 roses there, and this is the one millionth one. I hope you will give me a chance.”

Tears formed in her eyes as she threw she arm around Bosco’s neck. “Yes.” A smile formed on both their faces.
