Hebe sat in the coffee shop, twiddling with her fingers and the end of her lacy blouse. It's been two weeks since the day she met her mother at the bus stop and summer was over. Young girls in uniforms would pass by the windows of the cafe and snicker to each other about Hebe. No one came up to her for autographs, not even her dedicated fan boy across the street who used to tell off the other teenagers who mocked her.
Hebe sighed. Her life had become a mess. The bells to the cafe jingled as another customer came in. It was her mother. She was dressed in nicer clothes today, in a dress and baseball cap that resembled the outfit Hebe had worn on her outing to meet Aaron. There was no doubt that she was definitely Hebe’s mother.
"Sorry, I'm late, Hebe." She paused, hesitating whether or not she should continue. Hebe stayed silent, not that she wanted to. After all her prepping, she still couldn't get herself to open up so soon. Fifteen years wasn’t a small gap to fill.
"Hebe, I'm sorry for everything. I know it'll take more than that to make you forgive me but I don't know what else I can do. I know you don't want to hear my excuses."
Hebe shook her head at this. "Please tell me. Someone once told me that everything has a reason; I want to know your reason," Hebe paused, and then whispered, "Because for fifteen years, I've been trying to come up with your excuses myself."
Her mother nodded and took a sip of water that had been waiting for her at the table.
"Hebe, do you remember our small, old apartment we lived in?"
"Yeah, I hated that place. Our neighbors were always partying and getting drunk."
"The land lord had kicked us out for not paying the rent on time. That day I also lost my job. I couldn't even imagine letting you sleep on the streets so I did what I had to." She took another sip of water and went on. "I tried to give you the best day of your life and knew you would have even better days if you were taken in by a rich family like the Tian household. I was going to take you back within a year."
Hebe arched her eyebrows, her forehead wrinkling and she didn't even notice. She was too caught up with all this information to cry or even feel sad.
Hebe croaked up, "Why didn't you?"
A sad smile replaced her mother's fixed expression. "I quit school to raise you, remember? It took me a while to get back on my feet and look for jobs. By that time I had already picked up the homeless scent and who would hire me then? I was forced into selling myself. I got lost in drugs and who knows what else." She stared at Hebe. "I couldn't take care of you even if I did come back to get you. You were healthier and got better education in that house."
"So now, fifteen years later, you're back on your feet?" Hebe asked. She nodded her head.
"Yes, Hebe, and I've missed you so much." Tears escaped both of their eyes as feelings and reasons were finally let loose.
After an hour, Hebe got up. "This hour hasn't made up for all the lost time but if you're willing to give parenting another go, I'll be happy to be a daughter again. Here's my number and address," Hebe gave a small smile and handed her a piece of paper.
"I'll call you soon."
Hebe walked out of the cafe after hearing those determined words of her mother. The shattered piece of her heart seemed to have been slightly mended. Smiling at the gossiping college students, she walked towards the grassy field. Happiness had finally spread throughout her body and she could finally feel her sun on her skin. Lying down on the grass, she decided she could wait no longer. Taking out her cell, she dialed a number she hadn't called in exactly two weeks.

Jaejoong stared at his computer screen with a blank expression. He checked his watch, 11:11 A.M. He sighed.
"I wonder if Hebe's thinking about me," he whispered to himself. Ayumi turned her head at him but he took no notice in the gesture. Even as Aaron entered her room, Jaejoong made no sign of taunting their new relationship.
That was when the phone rang.
"Hello?" he asked nonchalantly.
"Hey, Jaejoong?"
He jumped up in his seat, a smile renewing his face.
"Hebe?" Jaejoong looked towards the other two with a bright smile. Ayumi and Aaron could only roll their eyes as Jaejoong silently mouthed out who had called.
"Jae, meet me at the beach around one." And with that, she hung up, leaving Jaejoong to stare at the phone, dumbstruck. “But I don’t get off work until six.”
Jaejoong sat back down in his seat with a pout. Aaron rolled his eyes again.
“Go ahead, Jaejoong. It’s not like you even work when you are here.”
“Really?” His eyes brightened. “Oh, Aaron! I will make it up to you, I promise!”
Before Aaron could make a joke, Jaejoong was already running out of the room. His whoops of joy could be heard echoing down the halls. Ayumi smiled at Aaron.
“Great, now I have to do all the work again,” she commented sarcastically as she rolled her eyes. Aaron hugged her from behind.
“Hey, look on the bright side; you might just drop some more folders.”

Hebe sat on the hot sand in her purple romper, one hand tapping away impatiently, the other sticking out awkwardly as not to spill any of the yellow goop that had melted off her Tweety popsicle. When she told him around one, she meant exactly at one. If she hadn't called him up to beg she would've been really annoyed, but at the moment all she could think of was Jaejoong possibly standing her up. Another ten minutes passed by and Hebe was just about ready to leave when a figure came running towards her. Hebe smiled, handing Jaejoong the Tweety popsicle whose face had completely wiped off.
"Put it in your mouth and bump shoulders with me." Hebe instructed.
"You don't call me up for two weeks and no hi?" Jaejoong pouted before stuffing the popsicle in his mouth.
"Oh, just bump into my shoulder already!" Hebe ordered. Jaejoong laughed, looking her up and down. It was unbelievable. The same clothes, the same spot, even the same brand of ice cream; it was obvious Hebe was trying to reenact the day they first met each other. Hebe tackled him in the shoulder and brought them both falling into the sand.
"Do you still believe in second chances?" Hebe asked through exhales as she was out of breath from the collision. Jaejoong nodded his head. "Good, cause I'm holding you to your words."
Jaejoong smiled and rolled on top of her.
"Can we just skip to the part where we kiss?"
And with that, Jaejoong held Hebe in his arms and did what he wanted to do since the beginning of summer.
And he was never going to let her go again.

Summer came around again and love was in the air. June, the month of brides and grooms, was famous of its weddings. But this year was the biggest of all.
"And do you, Jiro, take Selina to be your wedded wife?"
The audience silenced for the moment they'd all been waiting for.
"I do."
"Then you may now kiss the br-"
Before the priest could even finish, Selina was pulled back and kissing in the arms of her husband. The crowd roared in cheer and laughter. Ella and Chun were even hollering from the side for more.
The new bride and groom smiled to each other before running out the back of the church where the huge stage was built to the side. Rows of tables displaying gourmet foods welcomed the guests along with the table for wedding gifts. At the center was the five-grand cake sitting prettily in the center of champagne glasses. As soon as the white dress made its appearance, the live band began to play. Everyone joined in; some claiming seats while other heading straight for the food.
But while the guests were getting their party on, Hebe, Jaejoong, Ella, Chun, and Aaron were at the front steps of the church. Jaejoong and Hebe were lying exhausted on the green lawn. Being the youngest in the group, they were put to work decorating the limo.
Suddenly a shriek followed by groans echoed from the other side of the church.
Sooyin came running out of the church's front doors, her legs crushing her long gown as she rushed to announce the good news.
"Ayumi caught the bouquet!" Sooyin exclaimed, her plump cheeks reddening from the run.
"Oh," Chun nudged Aaron, "You know what that means."
Aaron laughed, and picked Sooyin up. "I'm going to be your uncle soon!"
Sooyin stuck her tongue out at him. "I'm only acknowledging your relationship since Jaejoong will be my uncle too."
"Oh, you got owned!" Ella laughed. Aaron frowned and set Sooyin back down. As soon as she was set free she jumped down the steps and sat between Hebe and Jaejoong.
"Aunt Hebe, when are you going to get married?" Sooyin smiled as she asked.
Hebe laughed. "Soon, I think."
Sooyin giggled to herself as she poked at Jaejoong.
"That was a hint."
