Suzz.
Something snapped in him. Pushing his way fiercely through the people who were standing in the middle of the pathway, Jay turned every now and then to look at the stage. The lights were switched on, illuminating the hall. Jay now saw that Suzz was lying on her side. Apparently, he heard one of the patrons saying, she fell backwards while playing. Ignoring the curious stares people were giving him, Jay ran, two steps at a time, up the stairs of the stage, and rushed towards her.
Kneeling down beside her frail body, Jay reached out for her hand. It felt cold, icy cold. He rubbed her hand, hoping to give her warmth. Slipping his free arm under her, he pulled her up and held her tightly. She felt lifeless, Jay thought alarmingly. He let go of her hand and began to brush the hair out of her pale, ashen face. “Suzz,” he whispered, leaning closer towards her. “It’s me, Jay.” He rocked her slightly, desperation visibly plastered on his face. “Wake up, Suzz. Wake up.” Suzz can’t leave him like that! Jay thought, almost angrily. She promised him that she’ll take the operation. How can she let go like that without even trying? “Suzz, wake up. Please. Don’t scare me. Suzz.” Jay bit his lips, tears on the verge of falling. Somehow, Jay felt that if he can’t wake her up this time, she’ll be gone.
Gone… Even if she is to go, Jay thought, a drop of tear rolled down his cheeks and fell onto her cheeks, at least give me the chance to say good bye.
