Chapter 20

{ 19 } serious about you

"Aish, that brat! He's going to get it later on," Yoobin said, irritated when she lost sight of her brother. Taeyang laughed behind her as he watched her throw temper tantrums.

"Anyway, why are you so mad at your brother? Surely he didn't say anything bad about you," he said. Yoobin stayed quiet while Taeyang remembered something. "Ideal man," TOP had said before. She didn't need to say words for Taeyang to understand. He pretended not to notice. "Don't worry, I'm sure he didn't mean to."

Yoobin smiled. "I should get back. Umma will get mad at me if I don't bring that brat home."

"I see. Where'd he go anyway?" Taeyang said after nodding.

"Uh... he's probably going home now." Yoobin opened her cell phone and started dialing her home number. "Ah, yobosaeyo, umma? Is Wonbin back yet?"

Taeyang waited at the side as he observed Yoobin's actions while talking to her mom. He smiled at how cute she acted. Whenever she's smiling her best, laughing, having fun or even when she's angry, irritated or annoyed. And even when she cries. But why is it that his heart ached when he sees Yoobin crying? When she's in his arms, why doesn't it feel right?

Yoobin turned and smiled at him. "Umma said that he's home now. Are you going to take me home?"

Taeyang nodded and the two headed back to his car.

--- --- ---
"Yo, TOP," Taeyang said coolly as he sat down beside him at a small club near the YG main building.

"Taeyang, you're back? What about you and Yoobin?" TOP replied while grabbing his drink from the coffee table. Taeyang chuckled and asked for the same drink.

"She already went home. She looked pretty darn tired chasing after her little brother. What exactly did he say to you?" he asked, turning towards TOP who slyly smiled.

"That's between me and the kid. He's pretty cool, you know, even if he's that girl's little brother," he said after taking a sip. He looked at Taeyang who hoped for a better answer. "Why?"

"Nothing... I guess I'm just interested."

"Really? You're not usually like this," TOP said, remembering how Taeyang doesn't care about a girl's background.

"That's right. She's different," Taeyang said and slowly smiled. "Yah, you might not believe me but it's true. When I'm around Yoobin, it's like a whole new world for me."

TOP gave him a weird look and snorted. "I think you're going crazy."

Taeyang chuckled. "You're right, I am going crazy, crazy over her. TOP, I think I'm serious about her."

TOP's smile slowly faded as he looked at Taeyang. He was serious. All kinds of thoughts ran through TOP's mind. Taeyang continued to speak.

"Whenever I see her, I always feel light, and fresh. Her smile and laugh melts me inside, it makes me happy to see it. Even her anger and how she gets annoyed, it makes me skip a beat and smile at the way she acts, how cute she looks when she's irritated. And when she cries..."

Taeyang paused, recalling this lunch time when she was in his arms.

"...my whole world crashes to the ground. I can't see her so sad."

TOP's eyes widened, unable to believe that his friend who was a natural flirt and a major player, is actually talking like this, like he's in love.

"Yet even when she cries, she's the most beautiful thing in the world. It makes me want to hold her in my arms over and over," Taeyang continued. "Is this what love is?"

He turned to TOP who was speechless. He just stared blankly at Taeyang, trying to process what he had just said. The waitress came and gave Taeyang his drink along with a wink but it was a first that Taeyang had ignored a girl, no matter how plain they might be. TOP was shocked at Taeyang's sudden change. Who knew a girl like Yoobin could be the girl who would change his complicated best friend.

"Yah..." was all TOP said. He still thought it was a joke. "This is a joke...right?"

Taeyang laughed. "I'm very sure it's not. Over a 1000% sure. Anyway, I should get going. I'm planning on picking her up tomorrow. See ya!"

He waved to TOP who just watched him leave without another word.

"He's serious..." TOP said, finally accepting the fact. "But with Yoobin?"

--- --- ---
"Noona! Wake up! You're going to be late!" Wonbin called from outside her door. Yoobin mumbled some stuff. Usually she would be the one calling Wonbin and telling him to wake up. 'What time is it?' she asked herself in her head and lifter her head to see her alarm clock beside her. It was already thirty minutes from her usual wake up time. She shot her head up and looked around her. "Aish!"

She rummaged through her closet finding things to put on. She found track pants and a pink fit tee with some random words written on it.

"Noona!"

"I'm awake, Wonbin! Now go a--" she stopped when she remembered what had happened yesterday. She shook her head. "You better get out of here before I get my hands on you!"

She heard Wonbin's footsteps scatter away and she sighed. 'Stupid brother. How could he tell his sister's ideal guy? AISH! And to TOP?" She threw the clothes but realized she only had a few minutes until she had to leave. She quickly slipped on her clothes and brushed her hair, having no choice but to tie it.

"Yoobin-ah! There's a handsome man waiting for you outside! Should I let him in? Or is he another one of your stalkers?!" She heard her mother call out from the kitchen. She rolled her eyes. It was so long ago since she had "fans" or stalkers. Who could it be this time? She leaned against her window and looked out to see the same car Taeyang always drives.

"Taeyang?" She asked herself and ran downstairs, quick to open the door and find Taeyang leaning against the wall.

"Yo!" He said with a little hand gesture. "You're pretty late."

"Taeyang, what are you doing here?" She asked. Taeyang was about to reply when her mother and brother cut in.

"Oh my, are you Yoobin's boyfriend? That means your her ideal guy! This is fantastic!" said her mother enthusiastically.

"You're the hyung from yesterday! Does this mean you can ra--" her brother was about to say "rap" when Yoobin quickly covered his mouth and leaned against his ear.

"Say another word, and say goodbye to the world," whispered Yoobin in an eerie voice. Wonbin slowly nodded and walked back to the kitchen.

"We should celebrate! My, I think I'm going to have a great son-in"

"UMMA!" Yoobin cried. She gave a look to her mother who smiled at her.

"I'm sorry, I'm just so happy. He's your first boy--"

"He's not my boyfriend," she replied coldly and her mother sighed. She was obviously disappointed. Yoobin looked at Taeyang who was holding back his laughter. "Sorry about that... they're just kind of... weird."

Taeyang chuckled in a low hymn and nodded. "It's alright. Although I wish I was your boyfriend," he said and winked at her. She gave an awkward smile at him. "So, what your mother said, was it true?"

"What part?"

"First boyfriend?" Taeyang asked slyly and gave a smirk. Yoobin blushed. She never had a boyfriend and Taeyang could tell now. "That's amazing. With your beauty, it's a real surprise. I wonder how many guys went after you."

"TOO MUCH!" Her mother yelled from the kitchen and Yoobin rolled her eyes.

"UMMA! Aish, we better get out of here. I'll be back. Don't talk to them anymore, please." Yoobin ran back to her room and stuffed everything to her Adidas shoulder bag. After putting on her bright red sweater, she dashed down the stairs and headed out the door, following Taeyang to his car. He started the car and drove along to Seoul Fine Arts University.

"What made you think of picking me up anyway?" Yoobin asked suddenly. Taeyang laughed as he steered right and shrugged.

"I don't know. I suddenly wanted to be like a boyfriend to you."

Yoobin coughed. "How many times have you done this to your girls?"

Taeyang's eyes smiled. "Not a lot. Rarely in fact. Just a few of those pushy ones who beg me to take them to school."

Yoobin looked at him. Why is he doing this? "Yah... about me... are you --"

"Serious?" he finished her sentence, without making any eye contact. He nodded. "Dead serious."

"Do you even know what I'm --"

"Talking about? Yes. I do." He slowed the car down as soon as he was in the parking lot area. He found a spot very near the entrance. "I'm dead serious about you."

He took out the keys and and stepped out of the car. Dashing to the other side, he opened the door for Yoobin who was speechless. Taeyang laughed, seeing the exact same reaction from TOP the day before. She stepped out of the car and avoided his eyes.

"Does the idea make you uncomfortable?" Taeyang asked suddenly as he walked with her. Many people whispered as they saw the two walk together, probably because of their "love scene" from yesterday. Yoobin didn't say anything. "Am I not your ideal guy?"

Yoobin stopped walking and looked at him. "Taeyang, you're a player. We don't match well together. We can be friends but not in the way you might want. Please don't play games with me."

Taeyang's heart felt a twinge of pain. "I'm serious about you. I like you and I've never felt this way before. Ever."

His eyes were filled with sincerity as Yoobin looked right at it. She didn't feel the same when she looked at TOP. She shook her head.

"Why?" Taeyang asked. Yoobin felt a bit guilty now. She hadn't realized that Taeyang was getting serious. He's never felt what it was like to love, and now he's going to feel it, one-sidedly. "Can't you try?"

She looked at the ground, ignoring his question. 'I don't wan to hurt you...' she thought. Luckily, Sunye came in the picture.

"Yah, Yoobin-ah! I called you so many times! You weren't picking up the phone! Where were you? I didn't see you in the bus," said Sunye. She looked at Taeyang and back at Yoobin. "Is there something... wrong here?"

Taeyang smiled and shook his head. "She was just thinking of an answer for me. I'll see you later then. Take your time, Yoobin, but I hope you make the right choice!"

Yoobin looked up and watched Taeyang walk away. She saw a couple of girls approach him and saw his head shake quickly. 'Is he rejecting them?' she asked and it was confirmed when he walked away and the girls were with disappointed faces.

"Sunye-ah..." Yoobin said, which startled Sunye because of the tone. "Taeyang... he's serious about me."

Sunye's eyes widened. Her reaction was very similar to TOP's and Yoobin's but for a different reason. She had realized some time ago that she had feelings for Taeyang but she thought that he wouldn't be serious about her best friend.

Sunye was about to say something when she felt a tap on her shoulders. She spun around to see Hyori behind her.

'What is this beetch doing here?' Sunye thought. She faked a smile and said, "How may I help you, Hyori-UNNI?'

Hyori did the same and put on a fake smile. "I was just wondering if you've seen my BOYFRIEND anywhere?"

"Oh, boyfriend? Nope, I haven't seen any disgusting guys who'd want to be your boyfriend around here," Sunye said, pretending to look around. She smiled evilly, mocking Hyori's patience.

"Oh, really? Well, I was talking about TOP..." Hyori said as she flickered her eyes towards Yoobin. She was obviously trying to taunt her. "Never mind, I see him. TOP!"

'TOP-my ass...ets. Who cares about him?' thought Yoobin. She rolled her eyes and started to walk away, not falling for Hyori's little trick.

"So childish," she said aloud and Sunye nodded. Hyori couldn't just watch her go away, unaffected. As TOP walked towards her, she grabbed his arm and followed Yoobin.

"Yoobin-ah, are you going to class now? TOP and I will walk with you," she said as she clung onto her arm. Yoobin felt disgusted and tried to free herself but Hyori just made her grip tighter. Yoobin looked over to Sunye who just watched. She was about to help when two members from Wonderful.

"Sunye-ah, let's go to class?" the girl with slick bangs said, and she looked like the girl who Seung Ri always talks about.

"Sunmi, Yeeun, you're here? Let's go then," she said and looked back at Yoobin with apologetic eyes. She mouthed the word "sorry" and gave a small smile.

'Aish, that ditcher!' she said. She rolled her eyes at Hyori's fake attitude. It was awkwardly quiet as she was trapped in Hyori's arms with TOP on the other side. Her smile was fraud and didn't look natural. 'How can TOP fall for this girl? Aish, why do I even care?'

They reached the class soon and Hyori finally released Yoobin, who thanked the heavens above. She tried to sit as far away as possible from the two since there weren't any assigned seats. And just when she thought everything was going to be okay, the teacher decided to assign seats. What a perfect way, to ruin the day.

"We're going to be combining classes for a special class. Uh, let's see... we need to go in partners..." he said and looked around. There were only nine people in the class. "Or maybe groups of three. Uh, Sungmin, Ryeowook, Taeyeon is one group, Woo Hyuk, Shiori and... Hyori. Now all that's left..."

The other three looked at each other. Jiyong smacked his palm against his forhead. He was stuck in the middle of opposite poles. Yoobin and TOP glared at each other, both thinking how horrible it was to be in one group. But was that what their hearts were thinking?

--- --- ---
"Can you guys just stop glaring at each other, geez..." Jiyong said, annoyed. He was tired of always having to be the peacemaker. "Can't you at least get along with each other?"

"How can I get along with this girl who --" TOP said when he turned towards her and saw what was written on her shirt. "-- is wearing a shirt that says she wants to be at the top. Right beside me, huh?"

Yoobin looked at him oddly and down at her shirt. The words were in a pyramid arrangement and at the very top said "top" in capital letters. Underneath it said "that's where I want to be." She frowned and smacked herself on the head for wearing a shirt.

"It was a mistake," she said slowly. 'AISH! Yoobin, how could you wear such a shirt!'

TOP laughed at her while she regretted wearing the pink shirt. "Yah, I bet you did it on purpose...maybe because..." he paused to add onto the dramatic effect. Jiyong waited for one of his nonsense. He smirked and leaned towards her. "I'm your ideal guy?" he whispered in her ear.

She flicked him off and hid behind Jiyong. "Jiyong-ah~ that guy is scaring me," she whispered to Jiyong in a childish voice. Jiyong laughed quietly but quickly stopped when he saw TOP's mad face slowly appearing. TOP didn't stay mad for too long. He was already starting his revenge plan.

"Yah~ Yoobin-ah~," he said in a sweet voice. "I know you like me."

Yoobin's jaw dropped wide open, her face filled with disbelief. "WHAT?!" She said in a loud voice. TOP and Jiyong started to laugh. For a second, TOP thought that she looked cute at the moment but he threw the thought away in the next second.

"Yah, you think I would like you? You're very conceited aren't you?" Yoobin said in a serious tone. She walked away to cool herself for a while. TOP was startled, not expecting her to have such a weird reaction. He also thought she was going to give a long list of reasons why she wouldn't like him. This caught his attention. She decided to take a walk outside for a while since it was break. He followed her a few steps behind.

"Yoobin-ah~, where are you going?" TOP said from behind in the same "sweet" tone. Yoobin tried to walk faster but with TOP's long legs and fast walking, he would be able to catch up in no time. "Are you ignoring me now?"

His voice was back to normal. Yoobin stopped walking and faced towards him, not understanding why he's even following her.

"Why are you even here?" she asked. Even though she felt annoyed, there was a little part of her that wanted him there.

"Yah, I'm just curious. I know you like me, but why don't you admit it?" TOP said conceitedly. Yoobin sighed.

"I don't like you, okay? I never did and I would nev--"

"Then prove it." Yoobin stared at him, confused. Why did he want to know so badly. All Yoobin thought she knew was that she never liked TOP and would never.

"How am I supposed to prove it?" Yoobin asked, wanting to get this over with. She didn't think her heart could take another second with TOP around.

"Give me five reasons why you don't like me or never would," TOP said, and surprisingly without any smirks beneath it. Yoobin felt her heart beat. Why that?

"Uh..." she said slowly, thinking of reasons that would make sense. "Because you're... a total jerk!"

TOP scoffed. "Like that's a reason," he mumbled. Yoobin ignored him as she continued to think up of better reasons.

"You're unbelievably stupid and not smart," she said, confident with that answer. He nodded, but without satisfaction. "And you kissed me by 'mistake' and blamed it on me!"

"You want another one?" he whispered seductively and Yoobin backed away, shaking her head furiously. TOP laughed loudly and rolled his eyes. "Two more," he said. 'AISH!' Yoobin thought in her head.

"Fine... because..." she suddenly became quiet when the other two reasons popped in her head. TOP noticed her silence and waited patiently, slightly becoming concerned.

"Because you made me cry..." she said quietly, and TOP almost missed it but he heard it clearly. His eyes widened as he watched Yoobin's perplex expression be overcome by sadness.

"Why...?" he managed to whisper. She looked at him with honest eyes.

"Last reason," she said, gathering courage and strength to avoid crying, "is that you already have Hyori." She looked away so that he wouldn't see this hurt appearance shown on her face. TOP was silent, startled by what she said. Yoobin didn't realize it until now. Something about him had already captured her. Everyone else probably knew about how she felt towards TOP. Only she didn't. Ever since that very first and wrong kiss, she had already loved him.
