"Sunye, why are you crying? You're strong! Why can't you handle just this once? You've already seen him with lots of girls!" she tried to say to herself. She continued to walk from side to side, small steps every time. She continuously bumped into people and she was barely paying attention to her surroundings. Her temptations wanted to call either Taeyang or Yoobin but she refused to.
"I don't understand... why exactly am I so sad? It's just one girl..." Sunye said but as she remembered the girl and Taeyang together, she felt like it could get worse. The two seemed very close with each other and Sunye sensed a different kind of relationship between them. She found a bench and sat there for a while. 'Aish, I think I'm going crazy,' she said in her head. Two girls sat beside her, oblivious that she was Sunye from SUNNY.
"I saw this trainee from one of the companies and he was so HOT! I heard they were debuting soon," the girl with the long hair and the white hat said excitedly.
"What are they called?" the short haired girl with the glasses said, not feeling as excited.
"Hmmm, B5B?" the first girl replied. Sunye snickered, knowing it was actually B4B. The two girls glared at her as Sunye lowered her head. "ANYWAY, yah, did you hear that Taeyang has a rumored girlfriend?!"
One of the girls gasped. "No way! My Taeyang-oppa? Who is that beetch!"
Sunye coughed, feeling that she should walk away but she felt intrigued by the topic of the conversation. She took out her iPod so that she could pretend she wasn't listening to them.
"You know how my aunt worked during Taeyang's CF shooting? She said that the girl was extremely pretty and she suited him perfectly..." Sunye smiled to herself, knowing that it was her.
"WHO IS IT?!" the short haired girl said, showing her obsession for Taeyang.
"A girl from SUNNY..."
"NO WAY! I was a fan of SUNNY," she said slowly. "But I personally like the rapper more. I guess I'm okay with her being with Taeyang."
The other girl agreed. "Yeah, the singer looks too soft to handle Taeyang-oppa. Definitely the rapper. What's her name again? Yoobin?"
Her friend nodded. "Yeah! Yoobin and Taeyang are definitely a match."
Sunye frowned and stood up, walking away from their conversation. She felt disappointed that they were matching Taeyang for the one he actually loved. She didn't feel like she could handle it anymore.
_____
"Where is that girl?!" Taeyang said as he looked around. It was getting dark and Sunye still hasn't been found. He drove around for about two hours and has been in and out of his car, looking for her in places where a car wouldn't fit. He called her house phone many times as well as her cell but no one would ever pick up. "AISH!"
"I'll only try for another hour, Sunye. If you don't let me find you, this chance will be passed on!" he said, as if he was talking to Sunye. He decided to go back to his car and drive around for another while. 'If I was Sunye, where would I go?' he thought, trying to think like Sunye. He shook his head, knowing he'd failed. 'There's no way I could think like her.'
He strolled around in his car for another fifteen minutes, looking around as he drove, many times almost hitting cars because he wasn't paying attention to the road. Every time he saw a girl with short black hair, he would automatically assume it's her but end up being embarrassed for thinking it was Sunye.
"I've never tried this hard to look for a girl," Taeyang said to himself as he started walking around, planning to give up even though an hour hadn't passed yet. He felt tired and exhausted. He crouched down and leaned against the wall, resting for a little while. All of a sudden, he heard her voice, singing one of her songs. He turned to his left and groaned since it was only a store playing SUNNY's songs. Then he looked inside the store.
"Not another Sunye look alike," he said and turned around, giving up completely. He was suddenly bumped by three young boys who were rushing the opposite direction. He brushed them off and wondered why they seemed so excited.
"YAH! WAIT FOR ME!" another boy shouted. Taeyang watched him pass by and rolled his eyes.
"Silly boys." Then a small child, probably around six was walking around. Taeyang decided to help him since he looked lost. "Do you need help?"
"Hyung... I can't find my older brother," he said in a cute voice, about to cry.
"Where are they?" the little boy shrugged and then looked up and smiled.
"Minwoo-ah, you're going to miss Sunye-noona! Hurry!" the older boy said, who was most likely the older brother. He ran after his older brother and went into the store. Taeyang was shocked.
"Sunye...?" he said and then ran back to the store and found everyone gathered around a small area. He pushed and shoved his way to the front where Sunye was.
"SUNYE!" he shouted. Everyone looked at him, everyone but Sunye. She continued to sign and talk to her fans, completely ignoring him. Taeyang grabbed her hand and pulled her away but she resisted.
"What are you doing?" she said.
"Let's go," he commanded and tried to pull her again.
"I'm staying here. Don't you have another girl to play with?" she said as she tried to free herself from his grip. This was the only time she wished he would let her go. Taeyang didn't let go.
"What are you doing with Sunye-noona?" the boys asked and the others agreed. Taeyang smirked and revealed himself as the famous singer.
"Taeyang?!" some of the girls around squealed and screamed.
Sunye looked at him with disbelief. "What are you planning?" she whispered.
"Everyone, listen! Sunye and I are planning to go on a special evening date, so I hope that you forgive me for stealing her." With that, everyone was silent as Taeyang whisked her away. Even Sunye was quiet as she was still shocked by his announcement. It wasn't until they reached his car that everything sank into her.
- - - - -
Sunye was silent as she sat at the front seat right beside Taeyang. He drove quickly, turning fast at the corners and beating the lights. She crossed her arms and stared outside into the darkness.
"Aren't you going to ask where our special evening date is taking place?" he said, dreading the silence. Sunye didn't reply. "Or are you just going to go ahead with it and make it a surprise?"
Sunye looked at him and rolled her eyes. "I don't know. Maybe you're going to take me to a club filled with girls so that you could flirt with them while I sit in a corner and watch? That's probably your ideal place."
"You're right," he said. Sunye's head spun around, looking at him with disbelief. What she said was only a joke but he seemed to be serious. "I'll show you how I deal with girls."
Sunye groaned as he speeded down the road to the club.
"Taeyang~! It's been so long! How come you never call me anymore?" one of the many girls that surrounded him asked. He shrugged as he gave her a peck on the cheek.
"I've been busy. And, I have other plans in my mind now." He chuckled, knowing clearly what his plan for Sunye was. After making him look for hours for her, she deserved some payback. Sunye glared at him and the bunch of girls as she crossed her arms in the corner.
"Why didn't I just leave in the first place?" she asked herself and sat at a small black sofa beside her. She laid back on the seat and found herself really comfortable. Until of course a stranger joined her.
"Hey there. I haven't seen you here before," the stranger said. She turned and found it hard not to stare because he had such a handsome face. He smiled at her and made her heart beat faster. Somehow, the stranger reminded her of...
"What's your name?" he asked her with a charming voice. She blushed around him without knowing why. It must've been the effect he had on her.
"Sunye," she said shyly. She was sitting up now, her head down and legs tightly bound together. She heard him chuckle. She looked at him with a confused look. "What's wrong?"
He shook his head with a bright smile. "You're very different from the other girls here. You don't look like the type to be in this kind of place."
"Yeah... I somehow got myself in a situation I shouldn't have been in," she said, remembering how she said something as a joke but ended up being reality.
"You..." Taeyang said slowly. The guy looked up and smirked at him in response. Sunye felt a weird rivalry aura in the air between them. "What are you doing here?"
"What, I can't be in my own territory?" he said with a different voice, harsher in tone.
"You haven't been here for so long..."
"Oh my, isn't it Youngwoo?" a few girls started to leave Taeyang's side to go by the man called Youngwoo. Taeyang gave him a serious face.
"Sorry girls, today I'm reserved." He put his arm over Sunye, who was taken by surprise. The girls glared at her. Taeyang immediately grabbed Sunye and pulled her away from him.
"Take any girl in this club. Anyone but her," Taeyang said sternly, making Sunye blush a little but was also shocked by Taeyang's reaction.
"Taeyang, Taeyang, Taeyang. Why so serious?" Youngwoo said with a smirk as he put a hand on Taeyang's shoulder. Taeyang calmly shrugged it off and held Sunye tightly.
"Maybe this was a bad idea after all. Let's go Sunye," Taeyang said grabbing her hand and started heading back but felt a tug. He turned around and saw Youngwoo gripping on Sunye's other free hand. Sunye looked back, unsure of what to do. "Let go of her."
Youngwoo smirked as he reached over and kissed Sunye's soft hand. "I don't want to let go of this innocent one."
"Why you --"
"Weren't you the one who left her all alone here in the corner?" he asked. "How could you leave a pretty girl like her in a club by herself? And now you want her back?"
Taeyang twitched. He wasn't getting along with Youngwoo. Sunye wasn't sure if she should say something or not.
"Look, there are many more girls who've missed your presence. Why don't you go with them now?" Taeyang said as he slightly pulled on Sunye's arm. Youngwoo still didn't let go.
"They've missed you just as much. And this beautiful young lady has captured my interest..."
"Anyone but her," Taeyang said in a stern voice once again. Youngwoo smiled in a challenging manner.
"No one but her," he replied with the same tone.
The two had a stare down as they both held Sunye, gripping tightly by the minute. Sunye couldn't handle it anymore.
"What's wrong with you two? Can you please both let go?" she said, and they did as she said. She stared at the stranger then at Taeyang. She looked back at Youngwoo. "Who are you?"
Taeyang spoke up. "You don't need to know who this man is. Let's just go."
"I'm Youngwoo, the great older and only brother of Taeyang also his role model," Youngwoo replied. Sunye gasped and looked at Taeyang who was getting angry, clearly shown by his expression.
"You've got be kidding me. Since when were you ever a role model for me, or even a brother? There's no need to waste our time here. Sunye, let's go," he said. Sunye finally let it go and agreed to go with him. Just before they exited, Youngwoo was able to shout something.
"I hope to see you again, Miss Sunye," he said and winked as he waved to her.
_____
"Taeyang, you have an older brother?" Sunye asked as soon as Taeyang started the car.
"Let's not talk about that useless brother." Taeyang's expression was serious and annoyed. He didn't look like he got a long well with Youngwoo. Sunye couldn't keep her curiosity low so she had to ask again. Taeyang still didn't answer and soon, the car was parked in front of Sunye's house.
"Now will you tell me about your brother?" Sunye said. Taeyang let out a groan.
"It's late, you should go."
"I won't go until you tell me." Sunye kept her seatbelt on and crossed her arms, refusing to go. Taeyang sighed again.
"What do you want to know?"
"Why do you two seem to never get along?"
"Because he's a jerk."
Sunye shook her head, feeling unsatisfied. "That can't be it. You must be as much of a jerk as he is."
Sunye glanced at him and saw how unwilling he was to share the stories about Youngwoo but she couldn't help but be curious of the people that surrounded Taeyang. She was just getting to know him more and more and Youngwoo may be able to help.
"It's okay. I'll go now," she said and unstrapped her seatbelt and opened the car door. "Taeyang, just wait. I'll definitely get to know more about you."
Sunye ran up to her door and quickly got inside after unlocking it. Taeyang stayed seated in the car as he rested his head back on the seat. Why was she so persistent and suddenly giving up like that. Out of all the experience he had with girls, only Sunye kept twisting his mind.
_____
"YOUNGWOO! There's someone here for you," the bartender called out. Youngwoo looked at him and smiled as he excused himself from the group of flirty girls.
"Who is it?" he asked, wondering which girl it was that wanted to see him this time. The bartender smiled.
"She's a different one, and shocking, too. She's sitting over there," he said and pointed at the black leather sofa. Youngwoo's gaze headed there and was taken aback to see Sunye sitting there. He quickly walked towards her with a charming smile.
"What may I do for you, princess?" he said. Sunye smiled at him.
"Are you busy right now?"
Youngwoo shook his head. "I can always make time for a beauty like you. I'll be right back."
She nodded and patiently waited as she watched him say goodbye to everyone in the club. He practically knew everyone.
"Shall we head out?" he said.
- -
"What can I do for you?" he asked as they walked around the area.
"You're Taeyang's brother... right?" she said, wanting to confirm it before asking him personal questions. Youngwoo laughed.
"Yes, I am, which is quite unfortunate for him." He laughed a melody, similar to Taeyang's but his had a more mellow sound. Sunye looked at him and saw a hint of... sadness in his eyes.
"Is it okay if you tell me about Taeyang. Things that may help me to be able to understand him?" Youngwoo glanced at her and smiled.
"You like him don't you?" He was able to easily tell that quickly. He looked more of an expert than Taeyang was. Sunye blushed and shyly nodded. "That's not fair. Where does he get all these beautiful girls?"
"What do you want to know?" he asked, the same way Taeyang had asked the night before.
"Why does he call you a jerk?" Her question made Youngwoo laugh immediately after he heard her. She was so straightforward it was too cute.
"Hmm... maybe because I am. Well for him at least," he said and looked at Sunye who was pouting, obviously not satisfied with his answer. He chuckled and continued. "Probably because I keep pushing him away and never actually 'supported' him the way he wanted."
Sunye felt confused. "He never mentioned having a brother..."
Youngwoo smiled at the group of girls that just passed them. Then he answered her thoughts. "He never wanted me as a brother."
"Are you... a step-brother?"
Youngwoo laughed and shook his head. "No, I'm his full-blooded brother and that's what he hates the most. Having an older brother like me that never protected him from the bullies the way TOP had, and never being there when he was shunned by our parents. In fact, I joined in with them and started ignoring him, too. Pretty soon, I forgot I had a brother."
Sunye was shocked as she listened to Youngwoo's story. "You're such a..."
"Jerk?" he suggested. "No, I'm worse than that."
"What exactly do you mean?" Sunye wasn't able to understand. In one minute, Youngwoo looked like any other brother but the second minute, he'll be a person that everyone practically wants to hate. But this time, it looks like even he hates himself.
"When we were young, I always ditched Taeyang for many reasons. First of all, I hated it when Taeyang followed me around like any annoying little brother. Another thing, I blamed him for the reason that our parents never loved us. I thought that it was all his fault when obviously, it was just our parents mere attention towards each other that they forgot about their two unwanted children. And in search of wanting to fit in and be liked at least, I met a group of friends who taught me what was 'cool' and 'uncool'. And hanging around with a little brother definitely wasn't 'cool.' So naturally, I shunned him out of my life for those reasons."
Sunye frowned. She couldn't believe what Taeyang had to go through and what kind of brother Youngwoo really was. She wasn't able to say anything that could've explained what she felt so she allowed him to continue.
"But Taeyang was a naive little child and it made him so annoying. But what was most annoying was he thought I was his only hope. He thought that out of all the people in the world, I could be the one to love him. I hated it. I hated how much I saw the old me in him and how much pain he obviously felt. I also hated how I acted, the way I didn't help. I just watched him day by day lock himself up in his room while I always get called down by my friends to hang out. And of course I realize now they weren't my friends. They taught me so much things, but what they taught me was how to be a rebel. I played with girls and broke their hearts, learned how to be violent and how to win fights, how to do things without getting caught, all kinds of things that I didn't need to learn. There wasn't anything good I learned from them except one. Seeing what kind of person I am. I learned that I wasn't a good brother, a good person at all. And as I looked back, that's when I realized I should have showed better things to my brother."
Sunye was starting to get amazed now. She could see the yearning in Youngwoo's eyes. She could tell he really wanted to change the past and how much regret he showed. Youngwoo stopped walking and smiled at her. The smile wasn't like usual. She recognized the smile, the same smile she'd seen when Taeyang left her house the day after the huge heartbreak. Youngwoo was hurt. She wanted to hold him somehow, the same way she had with Taeyang but he looked so... fragile.
"Is it okay if we continue next time?" Youngwoo asked, looking straight ahead. Sunye looked and found a group of guys heading towards him. "Please?"
Sunye nodded. Youngwoo quickly handed her a piece of paper. "Here's my number. Please go." And she left as soon as she received the paper.
______
"Well, if it isn't my little brother," Youngwoo said in a pleasant voice.
Taeyang shuddered and glared at him. "Hurry up. I want to get this talk over with."
Youngwoo smiled. "Why so serious? It's not all the time that we get to have a brotherly talk. I just came back to the country and that's how you greet me? How rude."
"Look, you called me out here to tell me something very important. Do you want to tell me or not?" Youngwoo tsked at his brother. Taeyang's tone was always like that whenever he was around him, which wasn't a lot. Taeyang leaned against his car as his brother smoked by his car. They were at the parking lot nearby Taeyang's favorite park.
"Sunye..." Youngwoo said slowly and glanced at Taeyang from underneath his sunglasses. He smirked as Taeyang's expression stiffened. "...she's very pretty. And... interesting."
Taeyang glared at him. "Stay away from her."
He chuckled. "What is this? Usually, when I like girls that you like, you immediately give them away or warn them about me but you never tell me to stay away from them. Is Sunye special?"
Taeyang didn't answer. He didn't want to waste his breath to talk to someone unreasonable like Youngwoo. They had an awkward silence as the sky darkened when Youngwoo's phone vibrated. Youngwoo looked at the display and smiled.
"Well... isn't it the princess?" Youngwoo said and answered the phone. "Oh~ Sunye-ssi."
Taeyang's eyes quickly flickered at him. 'Is it really Sunye? No, he must be lying,' he processed his thoughts. After a quick chat, Youngwoo slipped it back in his pocket and smiled at his brother.
"Looks like I won't be going to the club tomorrow. I have a date with a sunny princess," he said and walked back to his car when Taeyang stopped him.
"Was that really Sunye?!"
"What? You think I'm lying? Why don't you check it out. I'm meeting the beauty tomorrow by the movie theaters. But please, don't ruin our date." Youngwoo brushed past him and got in his car and quickly drove away.
"What the hell is she thinking?!" Taeyang said and stomped back to his car. His thoughts shifted as time passed.
'There's no way Sunye would be meeting with that jerk. Seriously... but what if he wasn't lying? No, how can I ever trust that stupid man. But... it's Sunye after all. Who knows what she's thinking. Well, it won't hurt to check it out. Just for tomorrow. If it is Sunye, we'll have to have a serious talk but if it isn't, I'll reward her.' And while Taeyang drove quickly, he passed a car that was parked at the side. Youngwoo rolled down the car window. His phone was no longer in vibrate when it rang. If anyone knew Youngwoo really well, they would've known why his ringtone was Taeyang's song. Youngwoo picked it up and his joking expression was serious.
