Chapter 1
Farewell
A gentle breeze blew across the playground, rustling the golden red leaves of the autumn season. The playground was devoid of people except for two seven-year-old kids, a boy and a girl, sitting on the swings.
"Is it true? I heard from my mum..." The girl asked, casting her eyes down on the sand in the playground. She had straight brown hair, cascading past her shoulders and chocolate brown eyes.
"Yes, it is true... This would be the last time we play together again..." The boy replied sadly. The breeze touselled his platinum blond hair and his sapphire-blue eyes closed in ecstasy. "It's such a windy day."
"Yes, it is..." The girl replied and continued swinging. A distant shout rang out from a house nearby.
"Uh oh... I think that is my mummy calling me... I got to go... Bye bye..." The boy said and jumped off the swing.
"Bye bye..." The girl waved goodbye but remained on the swing while the boy ran home. She watched as the boy got further and further away.

"Quick! The moving van is leaving soon, did you take all your things already?" The boy's mother asked impatiently.
"Yes mum, can you wait a while? I want to say bye bye to my friend," he replied.
"Yes, you may go if it isn't far away, but make it quick, you hear me?" his mother instructed.
"Yes mum, it's not far away, it's at the playground, I will come back soon," The boy answered before grabbing his prized possession, a brown teddy bear, which he got for topping his class last term, and two pieces of blue paper and dashed out of the door.

The boy reached the playground and true enough, the girl was there, on a swing. He approached her.
"I'm leaving soon... This is my favourite teddy bear, I'm giving it to you," he said and passed her the bear. "Thank you..." The girl accepted the teddy bear and jumped off the swing. There were tears glistening in her eyes. She slipped off a thin silver bracelet on her right hand.
"This is my one and only bracelet, keep it as a memory of me..." the girl said, placing her bracelet on his palm.
"And keep this too," the boy said and pushed a slip of blue paper into her hand. Scribbled on it with a rather messy handwriting was "Lyra and Clifford, Best Friends Forever". The girl held it in her hand.
"I have one too," he waved a similair piece of paper with the same words on them.
Suddenly, a moving van could be seen coming their way.
"You're taking too long! Hurry up, we have to go. Your father is waiting for us at the new house!" The boy's mother shouted from the van.
"I have to go now... Bye bye Lyra..." The boy said sadly.
"Bye bye Clifford... Friends forever... don't forget..." She said before he ran off to the moving van.
"I won't Lyra. Friends Forever," he said and speed off to the van. Lyra waved.
"BYE LYRA!" he shouted one last time from the van before it faded into the distance.
"Bye Clifford... " she replied softly. Lyra watched as the van grew smaller and smaller in the distance and she clutched the brown teddy bear and the slip of paper tightly with both hands......
