[ Kim JaeJoong P.O.V. ]
For the rest of the school day I spent there sitting at my desk staring at YunHo’s empty one next to mines, not paying attention to my lessons at all.
A small part of my mind had begun to worry about what WonBin had said, how I wouldn’t turn even if YunHo kissed me.
But SungMin had mentioned earlier that I’m probably his cousin...the vampire prince...
Then why am I human? Unless my vampire side inside of me has yet to awaken...Besides, even if I were part vampire prince I would still turn into a vampire wouldn’t I? How could I not turn into one?
Unless...SungMin’s presumption was wrong...
Maybe I’m not the vampire prince, maybe I’m...something else...
Such thoughts racked through my mind all day, even when I arrived home.
The father still wouldn’t talk to me, he was in the kitchen attempting to cook, he could’ve asked me to cook...idiot.
When I opened the door to my room I was instantly reminded of yesterday night. I didn’t clean the mess this morning. My room now reeked of alcohol and nicotine.
Sighing, I forced myself to clean the mess. Gathering up all the rubbish into a bag, I hauled it all down the stairs.
The bottles inside the bag clinked, because there was so many it had bulged to the point that you could see the bottle’s label against the bag. When I passed the kitchen once again the father looked up upon hearing the bottles clinking, he looked at me then the bag. He scrunched up his face and returned to eating his poorly made meal.
Well done for exposing that you’re returning to your wild Seoul-lifestyle self to your father Kim JaeJoong. Really, well done. Things between you guys are definitely going to patch up soon. Not.
When I had reached the bin outside the house EunHyuk and DongHae happened to arrive next door. They too stopped and stared at the bulging bag in my hands.
“What?” I questioned them after moments of silence.
“Is that all yours?” EunHyuk questioned with caution.
They were clearly judging me right now.
“Yeah, and?”
“Dude, what happened?” DongHae asked with concern in his voice as he took a step closer to my direction.
I wanted to tell them all my problems, the pain, the changes, and last night’s fiasco. But I just couldn’t bring myself to tell them. I didn’t want to trouble them, heck, I don’t think they would even understand the changes I’m going through. All they can do is listen to my problem, they can’t help, they don’t have the knowledge to help.
I needed to talk to someone...perhaps, someone who isn’t human....like YunHo...
I shook my head, trying to hide my distraught look from them, “It was just a craving.”
“For what? Twenty something bottles of wine and two packs of cigarettes? And what’s that? Pain killers?! Are you trying to commit suicide?!” DongHae spat with anger.
“Look, I’m okay now, just leave me be.”
Before DongHae could say another word EunHyuk had cut in, “Just talk to YunHo Jae. Talk it out with him.”
What, did he overhear my argument with YunHo yesterday?
“Let’s go.” EunHyuk said as he dragged a reluctant DongHae into his house.
How can I even spark up a conversation with YunHo at that moment in time? He should spark up a conversation with me; he could start it off with apologising.
I was the victim. I did nothing wrong. All I did was talk to WonBin and then he goes off to assume that I’m spreading my legs out for everyone. Does he see me as a whore? Yeah sure I was pretty much a manwhore back in Seoul who slept with all the pretty girls, but that was before I was attached.
And as if he knew, later that night I received a text message from him.
“I’m sorry” it read.
At first I was surprised, he never really bothered texting me first before. For the first time he actually took the initiative. But then I became sceptic, knowing how stubborn he is, why would he apologise first? Unless...he changed?
Before I could reply back to him, partially forgiving him I received another text from him.
“I’m going to be away for another few days...maybe even a week. I need to do some research...”
Well fuck you Jung YunHo. Here I was thinking that you were finally apologising for what you said to me yesterday, but instead you’re apologising for your absence. Well it was nice of you to inform me of your impending absence, but what about the situation yesterday huh? Are you just going to brush it off that easily?!
I threw my phone down onto the bed, not across the room, I paid far too much for this phone to be broken and I know they don’t sell the same model in this tiny village, let alone this entire island.
A minute later the phone vibrated. He was calling.
“Jae?” I heard his voice on the other end.
I remained silent, still fuming.
“You angry at me?”
Well of course I am you bastard.
Why the fuck did I answer the call?
“I’m sorry.”
I broke my silence, “for what?”
“For yesterday...” he replied hesitantly.
Does that mean the apologetic text was referring to yesterday’s argument?
Whatever, at least he’s apologising to me about yesterday. It would’ve been nice if he had done it face to face...unless he’s already far away from the village doing his research...
“Where are you right now?” I questioned.
“At home.”
“You’re doing research at home?”
“Well, so far, yeah. I may have to leave at some point for more sources later if I can’t find anything...”
I scowled, “What are you researching for?”
There was a moment of silence, and then a long “er” came out.
“The vampire prince...”
It had sounded like he was also researching for something else, something else that I wasn’t allowed to know about...
“You know,” I leaned against the headboard of my bed, “SungMin came into class today and said that I could be his cousin or something, you know, the vampire prince.”
“...really?”
Oh come on, I expected a bigger reaction than that.
“Mnhmn, and WonBin said that we wouldn’t work out,” I added with a teasing girlish voice as I twiddled my hair, “because we are too different, and I won’t turn.”
I heard a growl momentarily on the other end before it was abruptly suppressed. Silence followed after once again...
Did he just leave the phone?
“YunHo?”
“What did he mean by you wouldn’t turn?”
Oh he’s still there.
“I don’t know, I asked him and he told me to ignore it.” I pouted, “Hey, what if I was the vampire prince, what would happen?”
“It’ll be difficult for me to obtain permission to marry you.”
My cheeks flushed, I had forgotten about my engagement once again.
“Anyway, JunSu said that he saw you buying a shit load of alcohol yesterday after school. What’s going on?”
It was then that I told him everything. From exactly what I done to myself last night to the thoughts and emotional pain that I had to deal with, everything to the last detail.
YunHo had listened attentively.
By the end of it all I felt so much better, however just recalling the events made me teary. Like the stubborn person I am I tried to hide it.
“When you leave I don’t know what to do, I just lose control, literally. I drink like there’s no tomorrow, I experience pains on my back, I sedate myself to the brink of death.” I rounded it all off.
“Please don’t do that to yourself in future Jae.”
What a weak response.
“I can’t promise you that, you’re leaving me again for that fucking research.”
“I’ll be back soon, be a good boy and wait for me.” He cooed, “I won’t go anywhere, I only have you, and as corny as it sounds, you are my world. How can I ever possibly think about leaving you. Without you, I have no reason to remain on this planet anymore.”
I shuddered and cringed, but strangely felt warm and fuzzy inside.
How can WonBin say that we won’t be able to be together?
That once cold and arrogant Jung YunHo now sounds like a kind and caring lover right now, because of me. And because of him I can finally be in a real relationship that works, for once I actually cared about someone.
It’s like we’re destined for each other...
“Will we be together forever right?” I questioned, hoping that the answer would calm my stress and worries.
“Yeah.”
“Promise?”
“Promise.”
“I’ll castrate you if you break that promise.” I threatened.
“...w-what?”
Changing the topic, “it’s my birthday in 2 days, would you be back to celebrate it with me?”
Again the silent pause crept in. As if he needed to think about it. Of course he had to.
“I-I don’t know...” he replied tentatively.
“Well fuck you then.”
Before I could hang up he stopped me, “WAIT! I mean...I’ll try. I’ll give up an hour of my time-”
“Bye.”
“HALF A DAY!”
“Fuck off.”
“LOOK I REALLY NEED TO FINISH RESEARCHING SOON JAE, I SWEAR, I’M RUNNING OUT OF TIME.”
Oh, touchy.
“Fine, half a day, at night.” I finalised, realising that we both had been pent up for the past few weeks without any sort of release. I’m referring to the lower region.
He regained his composure and answered back in a teasing voice, “want anything special?”
“I just want you.”
“See you in two days then Jae baby.” YunHo answered back before hanging up the phone.
The bastard, how dare he hang up on me so suddenly like that?
The phone vibrated again. It was YunHo. Did he read my mind? No, he can’t do that over such a great distance.
“I forgot, where would like to go for our honeymoon?” he questioned without hesitation.
Honeymoon? What. We haven’t even planned our marriage yet, let alone when it’s going to be held...wait, am I even ready for marriage? Don’t tell he’s going to hold a surprise wedding on my birthday...
“When is our wedding?” I asked with worry evident in my voice.
I heard him laugh, “Soon, once I finish researching and when this whole Vampire Prince issue passes over. Goodnight honey.”
I sighed as I slumped downwards till I was flat against my bed, with my phone held tight in my hands.
Would I be wearing a wedding dress? What are vampire weddings like? Can I pick the dress? I won’t mind wearing a dress. Actually things could get pretty kinky that night...
Anyway, where did he get those words from? Baby? Honey? And that gentle voice and attentive patience, where did those come from?! Usually he would make snide comments when I recount my past. But today, he was listening to me, and the feedback was...weaker than usual.
He’s become more...humane...
[ 3rd Person P.O.V. ]
“Yah, Lee JinKi.”
Onew flinched at the sound of that voice; he knew very well who that voice belonged to.
The room was empty; it was only him and the owner of that voice who was present in the living room right now. The others were either out or in their bedrooms, napping.
“Stay away from Kim KiBum.”
Onew slowly turned on the sofa to face JongHyun who stood meters behind him in the hallway leading to their bedrooms. His arms were crossed, feet tapping, lips scowling.
“Why?”
JongHyun narrowed his eyes, “You should know why.”
Onew bit his lower lip and looked away, afraid of JongHyun’s piercing gaze. It was making him anxious.
“But even if I did, Key would still come over and talk to me.” He answered daringly.
There was a moment of silence before he heard JongHyun take one step towards him. The air became tense, JongHyun’s temper was rising.
“What did you do to him?”
Onew turned away so that his back was facing JongHyun’s now.
“Nothing.”
JongHyun grew impatient. He wanted answers now. He wanted to know why Onew was becoming closer with Key, why Key didn’t seem to reject Onew, and why Key had been distancing himself with JongHyun.
It irked him terribly to know that he was losing Key to a worthless pixie like Onew.
“Turn around.” JongHyun commanded after taking another step closer to the sofa.
Onew did not turn.
“I said turn around you retard.”
And with that insult Onew had turned around. He was both scared and angry at the same time. Scared that JongHyun would do something horrible to him, angered because he insulted him.
The insult brought back memories of the past, back when he was bullied by other pixies, who also called him a retard.
He didn’t leave the pixie community to be continuously bullied by others.
The pixie looked hard into JongHyun’s eyes, trying to gain courage to fight back JongHyun’s dagger-like glare.
“Kim KiBum is mine. Not yours. Mine. Don’t touch him.”
Onew straightened up his back and spoke slowly and sternly, “Kim KiBum is not yours, neither is he mines. He belongs to no one. He is not a possession.”
JongHyun took another step closer. Reaching down he grabbed Onew by the collar of his shirt, bringing Onew up from the couch so that they were at level with one another.
Onew gulped, losing his confidence he could sense that he was near to breaking out in cold sweat.
It was probably best if he didn’t agitate JongHyun any further, he knew what JongHyun was capable of. Son of one of the ministry officials, he had power and strength. Almost everyone feared him. He was not to be messed with.
For a moment Onew had regretted his decision to stand up against JongHyun.
“Look, I’ll ask nicely, leave Kim KiBum alone. He doesn’t even like you, let alone want anything to do with you, so why are you putting so much effort into getting him back to your side again?”
“Because deep down-”, Onew paused, wondering if he should carry on his brave act or not, “he still loves me.”
“How are you so sure?” JongHyun sneered, “You’re nothing but a useless pixie. Pixies and fairies can never be together. It’s nature’s law. Everyone knows that. Even Key.”
Onew looked away once again; JongHyun’s glare was simply too much for his eyes to handle.
JongHyun shook Onew, “Look at me in the eyes pixie.”
The pixie obeyed.
“Just stay away from Kim KiBum. It’s for yours and his own good.”
Onew took another large gulp, he knew he was going to regret this. JongHyun was already at boiling point, the white evident on the tips of his knuckles were enough to prove that along with the gritted teeth.
“No,” Onew replied firmly.
In a split second Onew found himself hurling across the room after JongHyun’s fist met his stomach.
He heard the door open and slam with a close.
“JONGHYUN WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?”
It was Key’s voice.
Onew coughed and spluttered; eventually blood had begun to dribble out from the sides of his mouth.
Am I done for? He thought.
“TEACHING HIM A LESSON THAT’S WHAT!” JongHyun roared back.
“A lesson? What lesson?!”
“To leave you alone! No one messes with my property!”
“Property? Property?! Since when did I become YOUR property? Huh? Onew’s right, I don’t belong to anyone, I am NOT a possession!”
Key had heard their argument from outside the door. Onew didn’t know whether to feel embarrassed or proud, he could only smile a little bit before he began to cough blood again.
“WHAT ARE YOU SMIRKING AT?” JongHyun bellowed over at Onew.
“JUST BACK OFF JONGHYUN.”
Onew heard JongHyun’s deep panting decrease, and soon his heavy footsteps started and became distant. A door opened and slammed shut. All was left in the living was an exasperated fairy and a beaten up pixie.
Key rushed over to Onew’s wide, pulling his face up to examine the damage. The fairy winced at the swollen cheek and the blood that was dripping from the corner of Onew’s lips.
“Oh Onew I’m so sorry.”
Before Onew could even reply he ended up coughing up more blood.
Alarmed, Key hastily casted a low level healing spell on him.
“When TaeMin comes back I’ll get him to fix you up, so stay still for now.”
Onew grabbed Key’s hand and smiled sorrowfully, “I’m sorry Key...I-I shouldn’t have...loved you in the first place...”
“Don’t speak idiot!” Key spat angrily as he held Onew’s hand that held his, “no one can control and decide on who they will fall in love with.”
Ignoring Key’s command, Onew persevered, “But I’m a burden.”
“You’re not.” Key assured him, leaning in close to him, “You’re someone who I love from the very bottom of my heart.”
Before Onew could process Key’s confession into his brain Key had already sealed Onew’s lips with his own, stopping Onew from thinking about anything else but the warm fairy’s lips.

Meanwhile on the other side of town, in the Kim household, JaeJoong slept peacefully in his bed, dreaming of his future wedding with YunHo.
However, as for the father, who had fainted on top of his desk at the office, it was the opposite. The dream had crept into his mind once again, the nightmare that had been haunting him for weeks, making him break out in cold sweat every night.
Only tonight it became more vivid, more dark and sinister. This time there were distant voices chattering in the background, speaking ill of him.
Outside of the dream, in the office, the bats in their cages were going berserk.
