Chapter 1

In a café near the beach in Sai Kung.
Raymond got out of his car and grabbed all the shopping bags lying around in his car. With all his hands occupied with bags, he walked clumsily towards the café.
“Mr. Lam, your friend has arrived.” The waiter greeted Raymond as he pointed towards the table near the window.
“Ah, yes I see her. Thank you.” Replied with a smile and walked towards the table.
“Sister Ma, how are you?” Raymond cried out cheerfully.
“Raymond! I’m very well. Let me give you a hand.” Sister Ma answered as she reached her hands out to help Raymond with the bags.
“Oh thank you.” Handing the bags over, Raymond finally settled himself on the chair.
“How kind of you? You got the children more toys! Did you manage to pick out some for yourself, my child?” Sister Ma asked with a smile on her face.
“Yes, yes. Don’t worry, I manage to buy something for myself in that Toy Shop too.” Raymond laughed and nodded.
“My child, you never seem to grow up do you?” Sister Ma smiled at Raymond. “Anyhow, I hope you don’t mind me meeting you all the way in Sai Kung during your lunch break. I can’t spend too much time out because the children are rehearsing for the Christmas play.”
Taking a sip from the glass of water in front of him, “Don’t worry about it Sister Ma. I drove so it’s not that bad.”
“You’ll be coming to see their Christmas play, right? I’m sure the children miss you a lot. You’ll be surprised to how much they all grew.”
“Yes. I miss them a lot too. No problem. I’ll be there with my family, for sure!” Raymond reassured Sister Ma.
“That’s great. I’m sorry but I do have to leave now Raymond. On behalf of the children, a very big thank you for the toys.”
“Don’t mention it. Take care Sister Ma.” Raymond got up and gave Sister Ma a big hug. “You sure you don’t need me to drive you over the orphanage?”
“No no… You sit down and eat something. Don’t go back to work without eating anything. It’s not good for your body.” Sister Ma ordered Raymond to sit down.
“Okay, okay I will. Bye Sister Ma.” Raymond laughed. Once Sister Ma left, Raymond picked up the menu in front of him and flipped it open. “Let me see where the waiters are.” Raymond smiled as he turned around. As much as it not being his business, he notices the table next to him. An argument seems to taking place between and guy and a girl.

“I sill cannot believe you did that!” exclaimed the girl as she broke her hands free from the guy.
“Why can’t you listen to me? You’re a lawyer as well. You know we need to bring up any facts that will be helpful to our client. Where are all your work ethics?” the guy questioned angrily as he reached for the cup in front of him.
“Work ethics…?” she asked sarcastically. “Who are we trying to kid here? You knew you couldn’t win the case anyway. With or without that last piece of evidence, your client would be tried guilty. Why did you have to bring up again? Have you ever thought about me or my family once that piece of fact is brought up again?”
The guy ignored her comment and continued drinking. “What’s done is done. I can’t take it back now!” said the guy calmly.
Without looking at the guy in the face, “You’re right. Even though my father is fine with what you did to his reputation, I don’t seem to be able to bring myself to forgive you. It so obvious that work comes first for you…and in order to win, you would sacrifice anything. Anything.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” he said as he tried to grab her hands.
“You know what I’m trying to say here. I’m starting to feel like I don’t know you anymore. I’ve had enough Ron… we both have different goals in our lives now. I don’t think we should be together anymore.” She said coolly.
Nodding as he let go of her hands, “Fine. You’re the one who wants to break up here. Fine with me. It obviously seems like you won’t understand me anyway.” Ron reached for his wallet and took out some money as he got up. “This meal is on me. Bye.” The guy turned around and walked away.

While they argued, Raymond ordered and ate. Raymond thought as he sipped his coffee slowly that even though he didn’t want to over hear the whole conversation, he did. He turned around and waved at the waiter, asking him for the bills. After paying for the meal, Raymond looked as his watch. “Crap?! I’m supposed to be back in the office…” He jumped up and ran towards the restaurant’s exit. As he ran, he took a glimpse at the table where the arguing couple sat and noticed that the girl has already left. He got in his car and took out his phone. “Hey Susan, I’m sorry but can you please tell Mr. Lam that I’ll be slightly late for the meeting?”
“Mr. Lam, don’t worry about it. Apparently, your brother said you do not need to go to the meeting today. He and Mrs. Lam will handle the client.” Susan said on the other line.
“Oh okay. Sounds good. I don’t think I can be back in half an hour anyway. Thanks. Bye.”
“No problem, Mr. Lam. Bye.”
