Chapter 11

At 6:25, Tavia left office and went down to wait for Raymond. 5 minutes later, Raymond’s car appeared in front of Tavia. “Hey Ray.” Tavia smiled as she got in the car.
“Hey Tavia...” Raymond replied.
During the journey, both Raymond and Tavia remained quiet which was very unusual since they usually had endless topics to talk to each other about. Tavia stared out of her window and was busy thinking about what Leila told her earlier on. Raymond on the other hand was starting to feel uncomfortable with the silence. “Tavia, is everything okay? You’re awfully quiet today.”
Tavia was still deep in thought and failed to hear Raymond.
“Tavia...!” Raymond said again.
This time Tavia heard Raymond and she snapped back into reality. “Yes.” She turned around and looked at Raymond. “Sorry, I was thinking of something. What was it that you asked?”
“You okay? You’re awfully quiet today.” Raymond asked again.
“Yes. I’m fine. Don’t worry. I was thinking about work.” Tavia lied.
“Oh. We’re going to be there soon.” Raymond smiled.
“Cool.” Tavia smiled back.
During dinner that night, both Tavia and Raymond talked and laughed just like before. Unlike what happened previously in the car, both of them still managed to have great time.

After dinner, Raymond suggested that they take a walk on the beach since it was still kind of early and they’re both so full from dinner. Tavia agreed.
As they walked on the beach, Tavia sneezed. Raymond took his jacket off and placed it over her shoulders. “Thanks Ray.”
“No probs.” Raymond smiled. As they walked, Raymond spotted a bench on the side. “Why don’t we take a break. There’s a bench over there. Let’s sit down for a while.”
“Sure.” Tavia replied as they walked towards the bench.
Looking out at the sea, Ray took a deep breath. “Tavia...”
“Hey Ray, look at that star over there...” Tavia interrupted Raymond. “Do you know what the name of that star is?”
“Um... I don't know what it’s called but... but if I was given the opportunity to name it, I’d name it... Tavia.” Raymond muttered as he stared at the star.
Tavia looked at Raymond and blushed. Luckily it was too dark for Raymond to see Tavia blushing. All Raymond could read off Tavia’s face was that smile of hers.
Raymond took another deep breath. “Tavia... Um...”
“Huh?”
“Tavia... I... I... There’s... something I want to tell you!” Raymond exclaimed.
Sensing that Raymond wanted to say something, Tavia just looked at Raymond.
“Tavia... I... well, I... I’m in love with you.” Raymond looked at Tavia in the eyes. “Somehow from the first day I met you, seeing you cry and then bumping into you again later on in court... I just feel that there's some kind of link between us. Then I asked you out for dinner and from then on, we gradually became friends... I feel that... everything is somehow... somehow...” Raymond lost his word.
“Predestined.” Tavia helped Raymond finish what he wanted to say.
“Exactly...” Raymond cried out. “I can tell you that... I really love you. I’m... always happy when I’m with you. When you’re not around, I miss you a lot. Just simply seeing you smile... makes me smile too. I think of you all the time... and I’ve never felt like that before.” Raymond mumbled.
Tavia was happy to hear Raymond’s confession but she wasn’t sure if she was ready to start another relationship yet. “Ray... I... I...” Tavia was usually very good when it comes to speaking. After all, she is a barrister but this time, she too seem to stutter a bit.
“I’m not asking you to answer me right away.” Raymond interrupted Tavia anxiously. “I just wanted to tell you... how I feel.”
“I’m really happy that you told me... I have to say, I enjoy spending time with you. When I’m with you, I feel safe and warm. I... I... think of all the things you’ve done for me and I’m really touched. I can’t deny the fact that maybe I do have feelings for you too...” Tavia looked at Raymond.
“You do?!” Said Raymond happily.
“But...” Tavia continued.
“BUT?” Raymond mumbled.
“I’m not quite ready to start another relationship yet. It’s not that I still have feelings for my previous boyfriend but it wasn’t long since I broke up with him. It was a 4 years relationship I had previously and I’m just not too confident in starting anything this minute. I’m sorry Ray.” Tavia muttered.
“It’s okay... I... I didn’t expect you to say yes anyway. I... sorry I dropped the bomb on you tonight.” Raymond said.
“Don’t be sorry. I’m happy you told me how you feel. I should be the one saying sorry.” Tavia said guiltily.
“Tavia... I’m willing to wait till you’re ready to accept me. I have faith that one day you will accept me. I can totally understand that it’s not easy for you to start a new relationship this moment but I hope one day when you are ready, will give me the chance?” Raymond asked as he smiled at Tavia. “I’ll wait...”
“Thank you Ray. This really means a lot to me. I promise the day I’m ready, I will let you know.” Tavia replied as she leaned over and gave Raymond a hug. Tavia could feel the warmth of Raymond’s body and this warmness she knew would make her feel safe. She knew one day she will accept Raymond but in the meantime, she just needs time to sort herself out. “Let’s go, Ray.” She whispered into Raymond’s ear.
Breaking away, Raymond smiled. “Okay. Let’s go.”

In the car, Tavia broke the silence. “Oh I forgot to tell you earlier on, I’m flying to Shanghai tomorrow morning at 10. Got to meet a client over there. Will be gone for 4 days.”
“4 days?” Raymond asked.
“Yeah.” Tavia sighed. “I can take this as a great opportunity to sort myself out as well.”
“So you mean after your Shanghai trip, you can give me an answer?” Raymond asked.
“I hope so.” Tavia smiled.
“How you getting to the airport tomorrow?” Raymond continued asking.
“Probably get my driver to drive me.” Tavia replied.
“I can take you to the airport. Let me spend some more time with you. I won’t be seeing you for 4 days.” Raymond laughed.
“Ray, I don’t see you everyday anyway! Plus, don’t you have to work?” Tavia smiled at Raymond.
“I can see you off and then head off to work.” Raymond explained. “So... can I?”
Tavia giggled “are you trying to be all nice to me so I’ll definitely accept you?”
“I know you WILL accept me one day. I’m so charming and nice. BUT will sending you off help give me some extra points?” Raymond chuckled.
“I don’t know... it might!” Tavia shrugged her shoulders.
“Then I’m sending you. I don’t care... I’m sending you off!” exclaimed Raymond.
Tavia laughed.
