Chapter 19

During dinner, Raymond was very quiet. There really wasn’t much he could say. Tavia and Ron talked a lot about work and it was obvious that Ron knew Tavia way better than Raymond.
All of a sudden, Ron’s phone started ringing. Ron excused himself to talk on the phone. Tavia seeing that Raymond has been very quiet asked, “Ray, is everything okay? You’re so quiet tonight. I’m sorry… are you bored?”
“I’m okay. Probably just tired from work.” Raymond lied. He was not okay. He was upset about the fact that he did not understand Tavia as well as Ron did. He was jealous. He was afraid that Ron was going to go after Tavia again. Tavia and Ron seemed to have a lot in common and this was starting to freak Raymond out.
“Sorry, I have to go. Urgent call from my client. Need to bail him out.” Ron took his wallet out.
“Hey I told you this meal was on me. Take your wallet back and go to the police station!” Tavia smiled.
“Okay then. Thanks for this meal. Nice seeing you again. Nice meeting you Raymond. I’ll call you Tav.” Ron shook Raymond’s hand and grabbed his jacket. “Bye.”
After Ron’s departure, Raymond still remained very quiet. When they left the restaurant, Tavia suggested that they go take a walk.

During their stroll, Tavia stopped Raymond. ‘Ray, what is it?”
“Nothing.” Raymond lied again.
“There must be something. Sweetie, if you want this relationship to work, we must learn to be honest with one another. You’ve been very quiet the whole night and it’s not like you. Where’s the cheerful Raymond Lam that I know and love?” Tavia asked.
“Tav… Are you sure Ron’s not after you?” Raymond finally asked.
Tavia let out a sigh of relief. “So THIS is what you’ve been worried about.”
“I don’t know… seeing the two of you together. How much he knows about you… I can’t help to feel that he’s wanting to get back with you. Am I thinking too much?” Raymond asked.
“Yes. Ray, I made it quiet clear from the beginning that you’re my boyfriend. Even if he wants to get back with me, it’s not going to happen. I love you now and there’s no way I can fit another guy into my heart when my heart belongs to you only. He knows a lot about me because we went out for 4 years before.” Tavia comforted Raymond. “Where’s all your self-confidence? Or do you not trust me?”
“I’m so afraid of losing you. You mean so much to me Tavia. I trust you. Sorry if it sounded as though I doubted you.” Raymond replied.
Tavia seeing how concerned and worried Raymond smiled. She kissed Raymond and hugged him. “So do you want to pee all over me and mark me as your territory?” Tavia laughed.
“Um… no. That I don’t think I need to do.” Raymond smiled.
“That’s good. I was so scared that you might say YES to that!” Tavia giggled. She took Raymond’s hand and dragged him. “Let’s go sweetie. Getting cold!”
As they continued walking later on, both Raymond and Tavia confessed to each other about their likes and dislikes.

After the whole Ron incident, Raymond and Tavia’s relationship improved a great deal. Raymond was on his way to Tavia’s office to pick her up. It was Christmas Eve tonight and the Lam’s were throwing a big house party. Naturally Tavia and her family were all invited. When Raymond reached Tavia’s office, he spotted her waiting for him with lots of shopping bags in her hands.
Being the usual Raymond, he got out of the car to help Tavia place the bags into the boot. “Hi sweetie.“ Raymond said as he kissed her.
“Hey Ray.” Tavia replied as she got in the car.
Returning into the car, Raymond said, “That’s an awful lot of stuff you got.”
“Yep. All presents for your family members.” Tavia smiled.
“And I assume my present is in there as well…” Raymond chuckled.
“I don’t know.” Tavia grinned.

The Christmas party was a great success and a lot of fun. Both the Lam’s and the Yeung’s got on very well with one another and had a great time. Raymond’s family loved the presents Tavia got them but the most important thing was that they all accepted and loved her. After Tavia gave out all her presents, Raymond dragged her to his room and closed the door behind.
“Hm… seems like you’re done with giving out all your presents.” Raymond grinned.
“Uh huh. That’s right.” Tavia smiled. “Why did you bring me up here?” Tavia looked at him suspiciously.
“Did you forget one person’s present?” Raymond pouted.
“Did I? Um…” Tavia asked as she pretended to be deep in thought.
Raymond put his arms around her. “Come on. Do I not get a present? I’ve been such a good boy.”
“Where’s mine? You gave everyone in my family and Leila a present. But where’s mine?” Tavia smiled.
“Okay. Close your eyes while I go get it.” Raymond whispered into Tavia’s ear.
“Close my eyes?” Tavia looked at him suspiciously again.
“Come on, you want your present or not?” Raymond questioned.
“Alright.” Tavia replied as she closed her eyes.
Raymond went over to his desk and picked up a big box behind his chair. He walked over to Tavia. “Open your eyes.”
Tavia gradually opened her eyes and saw Raymond holding a big box. “Oh oh… it’s a BIG present.” Tavia said excitedly like a little kid.
“Open it.” Raymond suggested.
“Can I?” Tavia giggled.
“Sure. Go ahead.” Raymond assured her. Without delay, Tavia unwrapped the present and opened the box which was filled with shredded colored paper. She stuck her hands into the box to search for her present. Feeling another box, she took it out and the so-called present turned out to be a box of tissue.
“Huh?” Tavia looked at her present. “A box of tissue?” Tavia looked a little disappointed.
“That’s right. This was the first thing you got me. So I thought that the first thing I get you should be the same too!” Raymond chuckled.
“Very funny Raymond Lam!” Tavia pouted and threw the box of tissue at Raymond.
“I wasn’t finished yet.” Raymond caught the box of tissue and handed it back to Tavia.
Tavia took the box of tissue.
“Shake it.” Raymond told Tavia. She looked at him suspiciously and shook the box. When she shook the box, she heard a rattling sound. Seemed like there was something inside the box of tissue. Tavia looked at Raymond again and saw a big smile on Raymond’s face.
“I’m Raymond Lam, do you think that’s really what I’d give my girlfriend? A box of tissue?” Raymond grinned. “See what’s inside.”
“Is this another prank?” Tavia giggled and opened the box of tissue. As she felt the layers of tissue, she suddenly touched something cold and hard hidden between the thick layers of tissue. Grabbing hold of it, she pulled it out and in her hands, she saw a beautiful diamond necklace sparkling in front of her. “Oh my goodness. It’s beautiful Ray.” Tavia gasped.
“I know Ray is beautiful… actually I wouldn’t use the word beautiful to describe myself… but then…” Raymond chuckled as he took the necklace from her hands to help put it on her neck.
Tavia hit Raymond playfully the arms. “You know I meant the necklace. Not you.”
“Do you like it?” Raymond asked as he led Tavia to the mirror.
“I do. Thank you Ray.” Tavia smiled.
Raymond turned Tavia around so that she was facing him. “Just a thank you? No kiss?” Tavia laughed and gave him a kiss on the cheeks. “Better than nothing.” Raymond shrugged his shoulders and grinned at Tavia evilly. “So, where’s my present?”
