Chapter 2

Relieved by what his secretary had just told him, Raymond started the engine to his car and drove off. Whistling as he drove, he noticed a girl standing at the sidewalk trying to hail a cab. Noticing that she’s constantly looking at her watch, Raymond recalled that the girl was the girl in the restaurant. The one who just broke up with her boyfriend. Raymond swirled the driving wheel around and made a U-turn and stopped the car in front of the girl.
Raymond pulled down the window and stuck his head out “I’m sorry but I noticed you seem to have some problem getting a cab. It’s really difficult to get one at this hour of the day and at this kinda place. I’m heading out as well...errr... if you don’t mind, I can give you a ride.”
The girl raised her eyebrows, looked at Raymond and said, “Um... yes. I’m kind of in a hurry. Can you possibly drop me off someplace where it’ll be easier to get hold of a cab?”
“Hm... This guy looks kind of okay. He doesn’t look like a bad person... plus I can really do with a ride out. I’m late!” She thought as she got in the car. “Thank you.”
Raymond smiled back. “I’m actually going to Central, is that anywhere near to where you’re heading to?”
“Actually, yes. That’s kind of on the way... I need to go to Admiralty.” She replied.
“Oh, okay. I’ll drop you off at Admiralty then!” exclaimed Raymond cheerfully as he hit the play button to his stereo. The song ‘No One Else Comes Close’ by Joe started playing. By the time the song reached the chorus, he noticed a tear rolling down the girl’s cheek. “Oh I’m sorry. Does the song bring back some unhappy memories?” Raymond asked nosily.
The girl sniffed and mumbled, “Do you have tissue?”
Raymond pointed to the back seat and said, “Sorry but do you mind reaching to the back and grabbing it yourself?”
The girl turned around and grabbed the box of tissue from the back seat. She pulled out some tissue and wiped her tear away.
“Sorry to sound nosy... but if you want to cry, feel free to do so. You’ll feel a lot better.” Raymond mumbled.
Without saying a word, the girl started to cry quietly and but very shortly she stopped and wiped all tear off her face. She sat there quietly and likewise, Raymond remained quiet. “Can you please drop me off in the High Court offices in Admiralty?” she mumbled.
“Sure sure. Not a problem.” Raymond replied immediately.

Very shortly, they arrived in Admiralty. “Here we are!” exclaimed Raymond.
“Thank you.” She looked up and forced a smile.
Her eyes were red and yet she’s still trying to put a smile on her face he thought to himself. “Don’t mention it.”
“I’m sorry that I cried during the whole journey and I’m also sorry that I used up your whole box of tissue.” She laughed. “You’re right. After crying it all out, I do feel a lot better.”
Raymond laughed, “Hehe... you owe me a box of tissue then!”
The girl laughed back and said, “No problem. Thanks for the ride Mr. Lam.”
“Mr. Lam? How does she know that my last name is Lam?” Raymond thought to himself. “Mr. Lam? How do you know...” asked Raymond curiously.
The girl turned around and pointed at the magazine lying on the back seat. The magazine’s cover was a picture of Raymond and his brother, Louis and titled as “The heirs to Lam’s Corporation”.
“Oh... right?!” chuckled Raymond.
The girl took out a name card and a pen from her briefcase and scribbled something on the card. “If you want your box of tissue back one day, give me a call. Plus, to thank you for the ride so that I can make it here on time, I owe you a meal!” she smiled.
Looking at her in the eyes, Raymond smiled and took the card. “Got it!”
“Bye.” She grabbed her briefcase and got out of the car and walked towards the entrance of the High Court building.
Looking at her back as she walked further and further away, Raymond smiled. He looked at the card. It said, “Tavia Yeung Yi – Barrister along with her office and telephone details.” He flipped the card around to where she wrote, “Free meal coupon. To be redeemed at any time of day and any place... but of course, it would be better to call first to make reservations.” Raymond read it out aloud and laughed at what she wrote. He slipped the card into his wallet and drove off. It was about time to head back to the office before his father and brother yells at him for disappearing.
