When they arrived, Tavia and Raymond walked over to his parents. “Mom, Dad…” Raymond smiled.
“Uncle, auntie. How are you two?” Tavia smiled.
“Tavia darling… we’re good. You look beautiful tonight.” Mrs. Lam smiled happily.
“Hello Tavia. Where’s your father and brother?” Mr. Lam asked.
“They should be arriving very shortly.” Tavia replied.
“Look, they’re over there.” Mrs. Lam pointed.
Mr. Lam smiled at Tavia and turned back to Raymond. “Raymond, go help your brother and Dai-so out. Bring Tavia along and introduce her to all the Uncles and Aunties. Your mother and I will go over to talk to Mr. Yeung.”
“Okay dad.” Raymond replied as he smiled at Tavia.
While Raymond and Tavia talked to some of the guests, Tavia suddenly spotted a girl walking towards them. Nudging Raymond lightly, he looked across and smiled. He quickly excused himself from the previous conversation and led Tavia over to the girl.
“Ray…!” the girl cried out happily as she hugged Raymond.
“Whoa… Nancy! How have you been?” Raymond asked as he broke away from the girl. “When did you get back?”
“Just this morning! Surprise!!!” the girl giggled.
“Let me introduce you to someone.” Raymond smiled and turned to Tavia. “Nancy, this is my girlfriend Tavia. Sweetie, this is Bosco’s sister Nancy.”
“Hello Nancy. Pleasure.” Tavia smiled as she shook Nancy’s hand.
“Wow. Raymond-Gor, your girlfriend is VERY pretty!” Nancy giggled.
“Thank you. I know she’s pretty.” Raymond chuckled and Tavia blushed. “Hey where’s your brother?” Raymond asked Nancy.
“He’s over there with Sharon… Let me take you over to him.” Nancy cried out happily and dragged Raymond over to Bosco. Tavia seeing Raymond being dragged, just followed behind. He looked back and whispered ‘sorry’ to Tavia who responded with a smile.
“Hey Gor!” Nancy cried out.
“Lang-mui (Lang-mui means little girl in Cantonese) where were you?” Bosco asked angrily.
“I was looking for Raymond-Gor.” Nancy pouted.
“Hey Ray.” Bosco patted his best friend’s shoulder. “Hey Tavia. Wow… you look great tonight.” Bosco laughed.
“Yo man, she’s taken already.” Raymond laughed as he placed his arms around Tavia’s waist.
“By the way, this is Sharon. Sharon, this is Raymond my best friend and his girlfriend Tavia.”
“Hello.” Sharon smiled.
“Hi.” Both Tavia and Raymond smiled.
“Hey Ray, I just saw Michelle and Kenneth over there. Did you see them?” Bosco asked.
“Nope. But we’ll go over and say hi to them a bit later.” Raymond said.
“Ugh… Michelle. I don’t like her at all.” Nancy commented.
“You don’t seem to like a lot of people especially all those who go out with Raymond.” Bosco chuckled and Raymond laughed along. “If people didn’t know you well enough, they’d probably think you like Ray.”
Nancy hit her brother. “NO. I like Tavia!”
“Phew… Nancy’s like a little sister to me. Don’t make fun of her!” Raymond nudged Bosco. “I’m glad you like Tavia.” He turned to Nancy and smiled.
Tavia and Sharon didn’t hear their conversation since they were so engaged in a conversation of their own.
“Anyhow, Bosco you take care of your sister and your girlfriend. Tavia and I will go over to Michelle and Kenneth.” Raymond said as he took Tavia’s hand and walked off.
“No probs.” Bosco smiled.
“Kenneth, Michelle…” Raymond said as he walked over with Tavia.
“Raymond… how are you?” Michelle asked as she gave Raymond a friendly hug.
“I’m doing great. By the way, you both remember Tavia…” Raymond placed his arms around Tavia.
“Of course… the pretty girl with you last time at the French restaurant. I take it that she’s your girlfriend…” Kenneth chuckled.
“Yep.” Raymond said proudly.
“Hi.” Tavia smiled.
“Glad you finally found someone.” Michelle smiled and linked her arms around Kenneth’s.
Raymond and Tavia looked at each other in the eyes and smiled.
“Anyhow, we’ll talk to you later on. Michelle and I will go over and say hello to Uncle Chan.” Kenneth smiled.
“Oh right. Uncle Chan’s sitting on Table 36.” Raymond smiled and pointed over to Table 36.
“Thanks.” Kenneth replied and walked off with Michelle.
When they walked off, Michelle looked back at Raymond and Tavia who were whispering to each other and laughing happily.
“Honey, what you looking at? Is everything okay?” Kenneth asked when he saw Michelle looking behind.
“Huh… nothing. I’m okay. Let’s go.” Michelle smirked.
On the dance floor later on in the evening. Raymond and Tavia were dancing happily. “Sweetie, I’m so sorry that the night has been relatively boring. I’ll make it up to you. I promise.” Raymond whispered into Tavia’s ear.
“Don’t worry about it. I’m not bored. I actually met a lot of interesting people tonight. However, I’m also interested in how you’re going to make it up to me.” Tavia giggled.
“I booked a room in this hotel. We could sneak up a bit later on and I can show you how I’m going to make it up to you when we’re in the room.” Raymond grinned evilly.
“You wish. I’m not following you up!” Tavia giggled. “Seriously, how you going to make it up?”
“Secret. You’ll see later on.” Raymond smiled and kissed her lightly on the lips.
“Don’t do anything naughty to scare me!” Tavia demanded.
“I won’t.” Raymond promised.
10 minutes later, Raymond and Tavia walked back to the table to sit down. “Dai-so, can you please take care of Tavia for me while I to the bathroom?” Raymond asked as he got up.
“Of course. I’ll take very good care of her. You take your time.” Jessica replied with a smile.
While Raymond went to the bathroom, Leila and Matt joined them at the table and they all started talking. Suddenly, all the lights went out and stage lights were turned on. Everyone’s attention was drawn over to the stage. Raymond walked up the stage slowly and smiled at the audience. Tavia on the other hand looked at Raymond and wondered what he was doing up there.
Raymond walked over to the microphone and smiled. “Good evening ladies and gentlemen… My name is Raymond Lam and I am the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lam. Um… the reason to why I’m up here is because I want to take this opportunity to ask a very important person in my life ONE QUESTION.” Raymond looked at his parents and smiled when they gave him a nod. He then turned to Tavia and smiled. Suddenly the song “No One Else Comes Close” started to play faintly at the background. “Tavia, from the first day I met you I knew you were the one for me. Although we haven’t been together for a long time, I know for sure that I want to spend the rest of my life with you. You brought a lot of happiness into my life. Every time I see you smile, it automatically makes me smile. There are no words to explain how much you mean to me. You complete me.” Raymond said as he walked slowly over to Tavia. “Now, if you would give me the chance… I promise to spend the rest of my life making you the happiest woman in this world.” Raymond took a deep breath and held onto Tavia’s hand. He got down onto one knee and took out a diamond ring. “Tavia Yeung, will you marry me?” Raymond looked into Tavia’s eyes and asked.
Tavia stood still looking at Raymond. There were no words to describe how happy she was. She smiled and nodded.
Seeing Tavia nod, Raymond got up immediately and slipped the ring onto her finger and kissed her on the lips. “I love you Tavia.” He cried out happily.
“I love you too Ray.” Tavia giggled and hugged Raymond tightly.
Everyone in the ballroom clapped. Raymond and Tavia walked over to where their parents were standing and hugged them.
