Chapter 25

Raymond got in his car and started the engine. If Tavia was on a beach, he knew exactly where she would be. He accelerated and drove as fast as he could. He stopped his car at Silver Cord beach. The beach where they spent their first night together as a couple. When he got out, he ran over to beach and under the tree where they had their little picnic, sat Tavia.
“Tav…” Raymond called out.
Tavia looked up and saw Raymond walking towards her. She got up immediately and started running. Raymond chased her and very soon they were facing each other. Just that she was on the other side of the road.
“Tav…” Raymond yelled and was about to walk across.
“Stay there. Don’t come over.” Tavia demanded.
“Why?” Raymond asked and was about to move forward.
“I said stay there. If you come, I’ll just run again.” Tavia yelled back.
“Tavia, I’m sorry about what happened earlier on. Please forgive me. I should have listened to you and about you and Ron… I don’t know what hit me then. I trust you.” Raymond tried to apologize.
Tavia didn’t say anything. She just looked at Raymond. Before dinner tonight, she still thought she was the happiest woman on earth. She was so glad that she managed to find someone like Raymond. She loved Raymond and knew that he loved her as well. Unlike Raymond, she trusted him. She knew that even though Nancy liked him, Raymond wouldn’t change but all she wanted to do was remind him that he should sort things out with Nancy before it’s too late. She never expected Raymond to change topics and start picking on her and Ron. She really thought he was over the whole Ron incident and that he trusted her. But she was wrong.
“Tavia, please forgive me. I sorted things out with Nancy already. I told her I can never return the same feelings she has for me because I only love you. I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have initiated the whole Ron issue again. It’s my fault. Please forgive me. I believe you and I trust you.” Raymond begged for Tavia’s forgiveness.
“I…” Tavia wanted to say something but the words somehow never made it out. A tear rolled down her cheek.
“Tell me what to do… Tavia you mean everything to me. When I couldn’t find you, I was so worried about you. I don’t know what I’d do if anything happened to you. Sorry Tavia.” Raymond shouted from across. “I can’t imagine my life without you Tavia. Sorry. Forgive me please?” Raymond continued to beg.
Tavia remained silent. All she could do was cry. A part of her wanted to forgive him but then another part of her was still angry.
Raymond seeing that Tavia didn’t say anything, decided to run over to her. He wanted to hold her in his arms and apologize. Without delay, he jumped over the rails and ran across the road but he failed to see a car coming towards him.

Raymond stood there and saw a bright light shining at him. A second later, he tumbled onto the ground. “RAY…!” Tavia shouted as she ran out to Raymond who was lying on the ground. She picked Raymond’s upper body up and held them in her arms. “Ray… answer me please?” She sobbed.
The driver got out and ran over to Tavia and Raymond.
“Call the ambulance! SOMEONE CALL THE AMBULANCE NOW!!!” Tavia yelled. The driver took his phone out and dialed 999.
“Ray… wake up please! Ray… don’t scare me!” Tavia sobbed as blood oozed out of Raymond’s head.
Raymond gradually opened his eyes and took out the engagement ring slowly. “Sorry…” he muttered. “Forgive…” he coughed “me…?”
“I forgive you. Please don’t let anything happen to you… Don’t leave me Ray.” Tavia cried as she took the ring and placed it back on her finger.

At that moment, the ambulance arrived and they carried Raymond away. Tavia followed behind and held onto Raymond’s hand tightly. Very soon they arrived at the hospital and Raymond was pushed into the Operation Theater. Tavia waited outside anxiously. Very shortly, Raymond’s family arrived.
“Tavia… what happened?” Raymond’s mother asked when she saw Tavia.
“He was crossing the road and he…” Tavia sobbed. Raymond’s mom hugged Tavia. An hour later, the doctor came out of the Operation Theater and everyone ran over to him.
“How’s my brother?” Louis asked worriedly.
“He’s okay. He lost some blood but he’s a strong man. He’s still hanging in there.” The Doctor replied as Raymond was rolled out of the Operation Theater. Tavia followed the bed. “Ray…” she sobbed.
Everybody let out a sigh of relief. “Can we visit him?” Louis asked.
“Yes but preferably not all at one go.” The Doctor suggested.
“Thank you very much!” Mr. Lam thanked the Doctor as the rest of them went up to the room to see Raymond.
They were all inside the room. They looked at Raymond lying on the bed with bandages wrapped around his head. Tavia was by his side holding onto his hand.
“Mom, Ray’s a tough boy. He’s okay now. It’s getting late, why don’t you go home with Dad?” Louis hugged his mother.
“I want to stay with him a bit longer.” Raymond’s mother sobbed.
“Don’t worry. Jessica and I will stay here with Tavia. We’ll take care of Raymond. You go home and get some rest. We’ll call you when he wakes up.” Louis comforted his mother.
“Okay then. Your mother and I will go home first.” Mr. Lam replied as he held onto his wife’s hand and walked out of the room.
Jessica walked over to Tavia. “Tavia, do you want to go home and get some rest too? Louis and I can manage here.”
“No. I want to stay here with Raymond.” Tavia smiled. “Don’t worry about me. Why don’t you guys go home with Auntie and Uncle. I will take care of Ray. I don’t want to leave him.”
“But…” Jessica said.
“Okay then. You take care of Raymond for us.” Louis smiled as he dragged Jessica out. “Let Tavia spend some time with Raymond.” He whispered into Jessica’s ear. “Tavia, call us when he wakes up.” Louis said as he walked out of the door.
“I will. Louis, can you please tell my brother that I will not be going home tonight? I want to stay here with Ray.” Tavia asked Louis as he walked out and he replied with a nod.
Tavia looked at Raymond and held his hand near her face. “Raymond Lam wake up please. I know you can hear me. Don’t ever leave me…” Tavia sobbed as she looked Raymond. “You still have to see me in my wedding gown…” Tavia laid her head down and continued sobbing.
