30 minutes later, they arrived at a small house with a big garden. Raymond parked his car and immediately got out to help Tavia with the door. “Nice place huh?” Raymond said proudly.
“Not bad at all. Let’s try the food before I say anything else. Just because the place is nice, does not necessarily mean the food’s good too!” replied Tavia as she walked with Raymond towards the door of the little house. The waiter walked over and greeted them and led them to their table. The waiter lit the candles and handed them the menu as well as the wine list.
Instead of studying the menu, Tavia continued to look around at the cozy environment. It was a small house decorated like some typical country house in Southern France. Tavia had to admit that the environment was really cozy and definitely very romantic.
“Hm... so Tavia... um... would you like some... wine?” asked Raymond shyly.
Finally turning back to him she smiled and said, “Sure. You decide.”
“Okay...” said Raymond happily.
After making their orders, Raymond and Tavia continued talking. They talked about virtually everything. From their childhood stories to their university life. Even while eating, they continued talking. Somehow, they seemed to have endless topics to talk about and what’s more they had a lot in common.
Just as they were both happily talking about their traveling experiences, a voice interrupted them. “Raymond Lam... is that you?”
Raymond looked up while Tavia turned around to observe who was calling Raymond. “Oh hi Michelle...” said Raymond as he got up and greeted Michelle with a hug.
“Raymond, you remember Kenneth... who’s this pretty lady you got here? Your girlfriend?” Michelle asked as Raymond shook Kenneth’s hand.
“Oh, Tavia this is Michelle and Kenneth. This is my friend Tavia.” Said Raymond as he introduced them to Tavia.
Tavia shook hands with both of them and said, “pleasure.”
“So, Ray... when did you turn out to be so romantic? How come you never took me to these kind of restaurants when we were going out?” laughed Michelle.
“Oh... um... I don’t know.” Said Raymond not knowing how to answer her question.
“Anyway, I’ll leave you two alone so you can both get back to your meal.” Said Michelle as she linked her arms to Kenneth’s. “Oh by the way, the Crème Brulee here is really good. You should both try it...”
“We will...” smiled Tavia politely as she and Raymond sat back on their chairs.
Once Michelle and Kenneth disappeared, Raymond said, “Sorry...”
“For what?” smiled Tavia.
“I don’t know. That she came and interrupted us... spoiled our happy atmosphere?” mumbled Raymond.
Tavia laughed at Raymond’s comment. “Don't be silly. So what if we bump into people? Do you feel uncomfortable bumping into your ex-girlfriend and her current boyfriend?” asked Tavia.
“Nah... I’m totally over Michelle. It’s been two years since we broke up. Although I’m still single right now... it’s only because I haven’t found the right girl yet.” Said Raymond.
“If you don’t mind me asking, why did you and Michelle break up anyway?” asked Tavia.
“Well...”
Knowing that she should not have been so nosy, Tavia interrupted Raymond. “Actually Ray, you don’t have to answer me if you don’t want to...”
Raymond shrugged his shoulder, “No... it’s okay. Like I said, I’m totally over her. The main reason to why Michelle dumped me was simply because she claimed that I was never romantic enough... Actually Michelle’s exact words were if I remember correctly, ‘Raymond you’re really boring. I can’t stand your kind of lifestyle anymore!’” laughed Raymond. “Plus, I guess we never had a lot in common from the start anyway.”
“Don’t worry. I’m sure you’ll find someone soon.” Encouraged Tavia. “When the right girl comes, you’ll find her.”
Hearing Tavia’s little encouragement, Raymond mumbled “Yep. In fact... the right girl might have already appeared... Tavia... I...”
Alarmed by what Raymond just stated, Tavia interrupted Raymond, “Um... let’s see what there is for dessert...” Tavia started to turn red and she focused her sight on the dessert menu.
Getting the message that he might have said something a bit too inappropriate and a bit too soon, Raymond tried to cover up by agreeing, “Yep. Let’s do that!” What on earth are you trying to do RAYMOND LAM! You don’t know her very well... I know you’re attracted to her... I mean who wouldn’t be? Now, she’s probably going to think you’re really desperate!! Aigh... bad move! Raymond thought to himself while waving at the waiter to take their orders.
